UN APPOINTS EX-PRESIDENT JONATHAN GLOBAL CRISIS ENVOY

n a landmark diplomatic development, Nigeria’s former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has been appointed as the United Nations Global Crisis Envoy, a role that places him at the forefront of international peace and mediation efforts.

The appointment, jointly endorsed by global powers including the United States, United Kingdom, France, China, Russia, and the United Nations, marks a historic moment as Jonathan becomes the first African former Head of State to hold this prestigious position.

His new role mirrors that of former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who once served as the Middle East envoy for the UN, EU, US, and Russia.

Jonathan’s selection is attributed to his reputation for diplomacy, humility, and his peaceful concession of power in 2015 an act widely praised as a milestone in African democratic history. His career trajectory, from university lecturer to Commissioner, Deputy Governor, Governor, Vice President, Acting President, and ultimately President, reflects a legacy of service and leadership.

In his new capacity, Jonathan will be tasked with mediating global conflicts, promoting peace initiatives, and advising on crisis management strategies across volatile regions. His appointment signals a renewed commitment by the international community to inclusive and diverse leadership in global governance.

Political analysts and citizens alike have lauded the move, describing it as a proud moment for Nigeria and a testament to Jonathan’s enduring influence on the world stage.

Further details on his upcoming engagements and responsibilities are expected to be released by the United Nations in the coming weeks.
