NIGERIAN ENVOY TO GUINEA-BISSAU Is DEAD

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the passing of Mrs. Zainab Joy Momodu, Nigeria’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the Nigerian Embassy in Guinea-Bissau, The Bureau Newspaper reports.

Mrs. Momodu died on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Military Hospital in Bissau following a brief illness, according to a statement issued by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Mr. Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.

Described as a dedicated and accomplished career officer, Mrs. Momodu joined the Nigerian Foreign Service in 2010 as part of the 20th Regular Course of the Foreign Service Academy. Over the years, she earned a strong reputation for her professionalism, diplomatic tact, and unyielding commitment to Nigeria’s global representation.

“Her passing is a profound loss not just to the Ministry, but to the entire diplomatic community,” the Ministry stated. “She served the nation with distinction, and her absence will be deeply felt.”

At the time of her death, Mrs. Momodu was serving as Acting Head of Mission in Guinea-Bissau, where she played a pivotal role in strengthening bilateral ties between Nigeria and the West African country.

Tributes have been pouring in from colleagues and international partners who described her as a pillar of Nigeria’s foreign policy execution, noting her leadership, sense of duty, and impact on Nigeria’s diplomatic presence abroad.

The Ministry has extended condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues, offering prayers for the peaceful repose of her soul and divine comfort to all who mourn.
