ANGRY STUDENTS SET PRINCIPAL’S HOUSE ABLAZE OVER 85K NECO REGISTRATION
Tension broke out in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State on Friday as angry students of Gyutiev Model College, Saghev Ward, reportedly set the home of their principal, Mr. Isaac Yina, on fire, News360 Nigeria reports.
The incident, which happened in the early hours of June 27, was triggered by allegations that the principal collected ₦85,000 each from about 178 final-year students for their 2025 NECO examination registration but failed to enrol them for the exam.
A social media user identified as Emmanuel Kash Keesha shared details of the incident on Facebook, claiming the furious students discovered they had not been registered for the national exam despite paying the required fee.
His post read: “The principal Mr. Isaac Yina of Gyutiev Model School, Ginde, Saghev Ward, Guma LGA of Benue State, has had his house set ablaze by aggressive protesters (students) whose NECO exams were not registered after collecting ₦85k from about 178 students for registration.”
As at press time, no official response had been issued by the Benue State Ministry of Education, the Nigeria Police, or school authorities regarding the matter.
Efforts to contact the principal or other school officials for comments also proved unsuccessful.
