PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED AND FORCED TO RESIGN, VIDEO REVEALS ORDEAL OF RIVERS LG SOLE ADMINISTRATOR

Two days after Hon. Goodluck Iheamnacho, Sole Administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area in Rivers State, tendered his resignation, disturbing footage has surfaced revealing that he was physically assaulted and coerced into stepping down under duress.

In the video, both Iheamnacho and Hon. Umegbewe Alabi were seen being beaten and humiliated by a group of unidentified men. One of the assailants, speaking in Pidgin English, was heard shouting, “Sign that thing automatically,” as the violence unfolded.

The brutal video casts serious doubt on the legitimacy of the resignation letter submitted by Iheamnacho on Friday, July 19, 2025, in which he claimed to be stepping down voluntarily to return to the private sector.

In his letter, addressed to the State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral (retd) Ibok-Ete Ibas, Iheamnacho stated:

“Sequel to the above subject matter, I humbly write to your noble office to convey to you my resignation as the Administrator of Ahoada East LGA. My decision is informed by my desire to return back to the private sector.”

He also thanked the Rivers State Government and the people of Ahoada East for the opportunity to serve from April 11 to July 20, 2025.

But with the video now in the public domain, questions are mounting over the coercive circumstances of the resignation. Tension remains high in Ahoada East, where security operatives have reportedly taken over the Council Secretariat to prevent further unrest.

Political analysts note that it is uncommon for officeholders in Rivers State to resign willingly, and such exits are often linked to political pressure or intimidation. The involvement of violence in this case has deepened concerns about political thuggery and the breakdown of lawful governance.

TheNigeriaLawyer could not independently confirm the exact location in Rivers State where the incident occurred. Efforts to reach the police for official comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
