FG CLOSES CASE AGAINST NNAMDI KANU, DEFENCE TO FILE NON-CASH SUBMISSION

The Nigerian government has closed its case against Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who has been detained since 2021 on charges of treasonable felony and other offences related to his advocacy for Biafra’s independence.Travel guides for Nigeria

The development followed a court hearing on Thursday, where the prosecution presented its final arguments.

SaharaReporters gathered that the Federal Government prosecuting lawyer, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), announced the closure of the prosecution’s case after its fifth witness (PW5) concluded his testimony.

Thereafter, Defence lawyer Kanu Agabi (SAN) stated that the defendant plans to make a no-case submission, which will be filed in due course.

According to Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel for Kanu, the defence has been granted 14 days to file its written address on a no-case submission, while the prosecution will then have 14 days to respond.

According to him, the trial Judge Justice James Omotosho, has adjourned the case to July 18 for further proceedings.

“The Court then adjourned to 18th July. Thank you for your support,” Ejimakor stated in a post on his X account shortly after the court hearing.

The case against Kanu has been ongoing, with the prosecution alleging that his actions and statements have incited violence and separatism in the southeastern region of Nigeria.

Kanu’s detention and trial have sparked widespread controversy and debate, with many calling for his release and accusing the Nigerian government of suppressing dissenting voices.Travel guides for Nigeria

The outcome of the case will be closely watched, with implications for Kanu’s future and the broader separatist movement in Nigeria.
