CRACK IN G-5 GOVERNORS AS MAKINDE FAILS TO ATTEND MEETING
Fresh signs of division are emerging within the ranks of the former G5 Governors, as Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde was conspicuously absent from a high-level PDP stakeholders meeting convened on Monday by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in Abuja.
The meeting, held under the banner “Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP,” brought together key figures from the former G5 bloc, including ex-Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia). Also present were PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former Senate Minority Leader Philip Aduda, and other current and former party leaders.
Wike, who led the G5’s rebellion against the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, praised the bloc’s role during the last election, calling them “genuine believers” in the party’s future.
“Had we not taken bold decisions, this country would have descended into chaos,” Wike asserted. “Like us or not, the G5 did the right thing—and we stand by it.”
Makinde’s absence has sparked renewed speculation about internal rifts and shifting loyalties as the PDP works to reposition itself ahead of future elections. While no official explanation was offered, his non-attendance is notable given his once-prominent role in the G5 alliance.
Wike used the occasion to call for unity and adherence to party principles, warning that personal ambition must not override the collective good.
“To rebuild, we must respect the PDP’s constitution and uphold the rule of law,” he said. “Greed and arrogance must not destroy our future.”
