FUBARA MEETS TINUBU IN LAGOS
Suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, met President Bola Tinubu at his residence in Lagos, on Tuesday.
The meeting is coming amid efforts to reconcile the governor and his estranged godfather, Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy confirmed the meeting in a post on his Facebook page, on Tuesday evening.
“Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers, now on suspension from office visited President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday,” Onanuga wrote.
In March, President Tinubu declared a State of Emergency in Rivers State and suspended Governor Fubara after efforts to resolve the political crisis in the state failed.
The governor was suspended from office for a period of six months.
Details of the meeting between president and Fubara were not immediately known.
The meeting is coming barely a week after Fubara said he has set aside pride and personal interests to restore peace in Rivers.
Fubara had said he is reconciling with Wike.
Both of them are at the centre stage of the political turmoil which led to the suspension of the executive and legislature in the state by President Bola Tinubu.
“We have to come down from our high horses and subject ourselves to the peace process. And that is what we are doing. What is important is for the state to move forward. It is not about you — the state’s interest is paramount,” Fubara had said.
