I’M BUILDING PDP, NOT TEARING IT APART, -: WIKE, SAYS PARTY CANNOT GIVE PRESIDENTIAL TICKET TO NORTH
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has dismissed accusations that he is tearing the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, apart.
Wike said he was rather building the party.
He warned that if PDP’s leadership fails to adhere to the party’s constitution, he would challenge any decision taken.
Wike spoke while addressing a press briefing on Monday in Abuja.
Asked if he is tearing PDP apart, Wike said, “No, I’m building it. Why are some people leaving? Their fear is ‘I don’t know who will sign our documents’, because the constitution says correspondence to INEC must be signed by the National Chairman or National Secretary.
“Now you are having a quagmire of who will be the National Secretary. For example, area councils election which is conducted by INEC, who is going to sign the list by INEC?
“If Anyanwu is not signing and another person signs, they will go to court – if we really want this party to survive, why can’t we make sacrifice – let’s not put ourselves under this.
“You want to host NEC – who issues the notice of NEC? If another person issues that notice, we will challenge it. If it’s not the National Secretary, I will challenge it because that’s the law, that’s Supreme Court judgment.”
Wike also insisted that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, cannot give their presidential ticket to the North ahead of the 2027 election.
His comments appeared to be directed to PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar.
Wike said: “PDP cannot give the presidential ticket to the North (in 2027).
“Selfishness can kill a system.
“For example, if Mr President runs and wins in 2027, by 2031 APC will send their presidential ticket to the North.
“PDP will do what then? You will come back then and say since APC is sending it to the North, we should follow them and give it to the North?”
