WE NO LONGER NEED SOCIAL SCIENCE GRADUATES, STOP PRODUCING THEM – EDUCATION MINISTER

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said Nigeria is brimming with too many social science graduates and is in no need of producing them again.

Alausa stated this at the headquarters of the National Universities Commission (NUC), while presenting provisional licences to eleven new private universities on Wednesday.

The minister urged the universities to focus on course that would produce problem solving graduates, who will contribute to nation building.

“Nigeria has more than enough social science graduates. What we need now are problem-solvers graduates with life skills who can drive industries, build infrastructure, and improve lives.

“We must acknowledge an uncomfortable truth: while we now have 159 licensed private universities, too many are failing to meet the quality standards Nigeria demands,” he said.

Among the new universities are: New City University, Ayetoro, Ogun State; University of Fortune, Igbotako, Ondo State; Eranova University, Mabushi and Minaret University, Ikirun, Osun Annex. Also given provisional licences are Abubakar Toyin University, Oke-Agba, Kwara State; Southern Atlantic University, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State; Lens University, Ilemona, Kwara State; Monarch University, Iyesi-Ota, Ogun State. Others are Tonnie Iredia University of Communication, Benin City; Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management, Lagos, and Kevin Eze University, Mgbowo, Enugu State.
