POLICE ARREST RIVERS RESIDENT FOR KILLING REVEREND SISTER OVER UNPAID DEBT
Kelvin Okoro, a resident of Aluu in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, has been arrested by the state police command for allegedly killing a Reverend Sister, Maureen Wecheonwu, after repeated demands for repayment of a debt.
Community sources said the Reverend Sister had consistently reminded Okoro the money he owed her before he allegedly lured her to a remote area and murdered her.
“What we heard was that he didn’t know how to repay the money. So he called the woman out in the guise of discussing the debt,” a source who pleaded anonymity stated.
“The Reverend Sister has been complaining to people in the community that he refused to pay his debt. Not knowing his evil intentions, he took her to a lonely path and hit her severally with an object.”
Her lifeless body was later discovered in a pool of blood by residents, who alerted the local vigilante group.
“Following the discovery of the remains of the Reverend Sister, people began to wonder why they hadn’t seen Okoro, prompting an intensified search by the vigilante codenamed OSPAC,” the source added.
Vigilante commander in Aluu, Kingsley Wali, led the team that eventually tracked Okoro to his hideout. He was arrested and handed over to the police.
The suspect was also said to have taken possession of some of the Reverend Sister’s personal belongings.
Confirming the arrest, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the investigation had been handed over to the appropriate department.
“Yes I can confirm. The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department,” she said.
