The statements of Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state that the recent killings in the state was perpetrated by Hausa speakers from Mali generated mixed reactions from the general public after his comments went viral across various social media platforms.

While many believed the governor’s comments were unnecessary as the lives of his people should be of utmost priority to him, Chidi Odinkalu, a renowned human rights activist and lawyer came hard on the governor and made it straight whom the perpetrators of the attack should be.

According to Chidi Odinkalu, the governor’s inability to identify the attackers were enough reasons for him to return to the seminary or seek re-education.

He argued that Malians speak different languages which included, Bambara, Songhai and Malinke.

He further pointed it out to the governor that Hausa speakers with French accent which was the accent he claimed should be from Niger and not Mali.

‘In his words’ the governor of Benue state should return to the seminary or seek re-education.

He says Benue massacres are the handiwork of Hausa speakers from Mali? Malians speak Bambara, Songhai, Malinke. Hausa speakers with French accent should be from Niger not Mali.” He said.
