MAN PROPOSES, GOD DISPOSES: LATE OKUPE HAD SET UP 2027 CAMPAIGN OFFICE FOR TINUBU – PRESIDENCY
The presidency has revealed that before his passing, Doyin Okupe was fully prepared to support and campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
This revelation was made on Thursday during a Service of Songs held in Okupe’s honor in Lagos State.
Okupe, who previously served as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan, as well Director General, Peter Obi Presidential Campaign in 2023, passed away at the age of 72 after battling an illness.
He later left Obi and crossed over to President Ahmed Tinubu
Speaking at the event, Tunde Rahman, Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Media Affairs, described Okupe’s death as a personal loss to Tinubu.
He noted that despite their differing political affiliations, Okupe had come to appreciate President Tinubu’s vision for Nigeria and was committed to playing a role in its realization.
Rahman stated: “Though President Tinubu and Doyin Okupe held different political views and alliances, they shared mutual respect and admiration. Dr. Okupe’s death is not just a personal loss to President Tinubu but also to the nation and the political class. He was an astute politician, strategist, and communications expert.”
He further disclosed that Okupe was so determined to work for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election that he had already set up an office and a team dedicated to the campaign, believing that Tinubu’s policies were crucial for Nigeria’s progress.
Okupe Was A Distinguished Statesman
Also speaking at the event, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described Doyin Okupe as a seasoned statesman and public servant who lived a remarkable life.
Expressing condolences to the Okupe family, the governor emphasized that the late politician was a firm believer in a better Nigeria.
Sanwo-Olu remarked: “Dr. Doyin Okupe-Agbonmagbe was a distinguished statesman, an insightful political commentator, and a devoted public servant whose influence spanned decades. His dedication to democracy, governance, and national development transcended party lines.”
He further praised Okupe as: “A distinguished Nigerian, a skilled politician, and a man of integrity who dedicated his life to advocating for a better Nigeria and serving humanity.”
