KOGI STAKEHOLDERS BACK RECALL AGAINST SENATOR NATASHA

The Kogi Central Women Development Association (KCWDA) has declared its support for the movement seeking to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the National Assembly.

During a press conference held in Lokoja on Thursday, KCWDA leader Dr. E. Sandra criticized Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions, stating that they could negatively impact the credibility of female politicians in the region.

The association expressed dismay over the senator’s decision to take a legislative matter before the United Nations, arguing that such actions undermine her role as a lawmaker.

Dr. Sandra said: “A primary focus of our criticism is the senator’s decision to take an arm of the Nigerian government before the United Nations.

“This move not only diminishes her authority as a sitting senator but also portrays her as perceiving herself above her colleagues in the Senate.”

The group also condemned Akpoti-Uduaghan’s appearance before the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

“Her statements embarrassed the National Assembly and tarnished Nigeria’s reputation on the global stage,” the group said.

Another key concern raised by KCWDA was the senator’s focus on allegations of sexual harassment, which they argued had distracted her from addressing pressing issues affecting the people of Kogi Central.

The group contended that Akpoti-Uduaghan had not provided substantial evidence to support her claims and called on her to present concrete proof before expecting public support.

A particularly contentious issue raised by KCWDA was the senator’s refusal to apologize to Senate President Godswill Akpabio following their dispute, which led to her six-month suspension.

The association stated that her suspension deprived Kogi Central of proper representation during a crucial period.

Asserting the need for leadership that prioritizes the welfare of constituents, KCWDA announced its intention to initiate the process of recalling Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The group demanded a public apology from the senator and called for the election of a new representative who embodies qualities of responsibility, lawfulness, and dedication to the people.
