RIVERS LAWMAKER REJECTS FUBARA’S INVITATION
Rivers State House of Assembly member, Lolo Isaiah Opuende, has rejected an invitation from Governor Siminialayi Fubara for a crucial meeting at Government House, Port Harcourt.
In a video shared online, Opuende made it clear that time had come for both the governor and the lawmakers to operate independently.
Using the phrase “dey his dey,” he suggested that the governor should focus on his affairs while the legislators do the same.
Opuende, who represents Akuku-Toru Constituency 2, reflected on the ongoing political crisis in the state, recalling that their principal had foreseen a time when both factions would go their separate ways.
He emphasized that the current situation was not unexpected and seemed to reaffirm the widening rift between the Assembly and the governor’s administration.
One of Opuende’s major concerns was the manner in which the governor’s invitation was communicated. He questioned the legitimacy of inviting lawmakers through social media, arguing that such an informal approach was inappropriate for official government proceedings.
“How can you write a letter meant for the House of Assembly and then post it on social media, expecting us to attend? The governor should follow the proper channels and address us formally,” he stated.
His remarks highlighted the deepening political tension in Rivers State, where relations between the governor and lawmakers have become increasingly strained.
Opuende’s outright dismissal of the meeting underscores the Assembly’s dissatisfaction with the governor’s approach to governance and communication.
As the crisis continues, it remains unclear how the rift between the two factions will be resolved.
However, Opuende’s statement suggests that reconciliation may be difficult unless the governor engages the lawmakers through proper and formal means.
