POLITICAL ACTIVIST THREATENS TO SUE GOV. SOLUDO OVER INSECURITY

A political activist and the Head Mission of Leadership & Accountability Initiative, Hon. Nwazuluahu Henry Shield has decried growing insecurity in Anambra State, threatening to take the state governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo to court over inability to protect the people of the state.

The South East state has witnessed a rising wave in the spate of killings and kidnappings in recent times.

In October, gunmen launched an attack in Nibo, a community in Awka South Local Government Area of the State, killing at least ten persons.

The incident occurred during the Nibo Community’s celebration of the Onwa Asaa, a traditional festival.

Also, last year three brothers from the same mother fell victims to the relentless cult violent attacks in Awka, the Anambra State capital, with latest of them identified as Nonso, who eas killed in broad daylight in November near Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka.

According to a close family source, Nonso’s killing is linked to the murder of his younger brother, Buchi, three months ago around Mac Don Eatery’s axis. Their eldest brother had also met a brutal end in a previous attack and the tragic loss has left their mother childless.

Also in November, heavily armed gunmen stormed the Abatete community in Idemili North Local Government Area, targeting security personnel attached to the town’s President-General.

At the end of the attack, at least five persons were killed with the President General of the community fatally injured.

Ebonesie Community comprising 6 different villages has not known peace since Soludo became Governor. Indigenes of the communities can not return home for fear of being kidnapped or murdered.

Troubled by these, Henry Shield in a letter to the Anambra state Commissioner for Finance under the FoI Act, demanding details of security vote allocation in the state from March 2022 when governor Soludo came to power.

In the letter dated January 15, 2025 the Leadership and Accountability Initiative made the following requests, “The total amount allocated as security votes to Governor Soludo since his inauguration in 2022, broken down by year, and month, from March 2022 to date.

“The breakdown of how these funds have been allocated, including the dates and amounts of each disbursement.

“Any related documents, records, or correspondences as to any special security-related Federal Government Intervention(s) and allocation(s), the amounts, and their dates of disbursement.”

He said failure by the state government to respond appropriately within the stipulated timeline will attract a legal action against the state government and the governor.

ROWDY COURT SESSIONAt the resumed session on February 10, Awomolo told the court that the prosecution counsels have filed and served all necessary processes in the suit and that they were ready to proceed with trial. However, Ejimakor insisted that was not the issue before the court.Nyako explained that although she does not want to preside over the case, the chief judge has refused her recusal and directed the defendant to file a formal motion asking for a reassignment of the case to another judge. While the lawyers in the suit argued over whether a formal motion was required, Kanu interjected: “I want to speak”, he hollered.Asked by the judge if he wanted to take over from his lawyer, the defendant said: “Yes, I want to take over.” The separatist said he was only in court because of the respect he had for the court, but that Nyako no longer had the jurisdiction to preside over his case following her recusal in September.Raging at the prosecution counsel, Kanu said: “A grown-up man like you who should be in the village and who should be making sure that things are done properly is here subverting the law.” Addressing the judge, he bellowed: “I don’t recognise the authority of this court to preside over my case. Everything you said here is meaningless to me.“Why is it that when it comes to my case, everything is turned upside-down?” He said the memo sent by the chief judge returning the case file to Nyako cannot override the enrolled order of the court made on September 24. Told by the judge that he was at liberty to appeal the directive of the chief judge, Kanu said: “If the chief judge disagrees, he should appeal the decision. “You cannot preside over this case, not now, not today, not ever. You stand recused and you must leave my case. I don’t need you in my case. You are biased. Tell the chief judge that Nnamdi Kanu said so.“This is not a court of law, this is a shrine to injustice and I will not subject myself to it.”In his submission, Awomolo asked the court to fix a date for trial. “In view of the fact that the defendant has indicated that he would not make a formal application, I apply that your lordship gives us a definite date for trial,” Awomolo prayed. “Because of money they are paying you from the AGF’s office, a grown-up man like you is here supporting evil.     UNITED KINGDOM JOIN TRUMP’S UNITED STATES TO HUNT DOWN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS The British government on Monday touted its success in raiding businesses that employ unauthorized workers and deporting thousands of migrants with no right to stay in the U.K. What’s billed as a “blitz on illegal working” is part of a pledge by the center-left Labour government to reduce immigration -– a priority for many voters -– and stop the growing popularity of the hard-right party Reform U.K. But for migrants groups, and some Labour Party members, the images uncomfortably recall a previous Conservative government’s pledge to make Britain a “hostile environment” for illegal migration. That led to thousands of long-term legal residents being denied housing, jobs or medical treatment because they could not prove their status. Dozens were detained or deported to countries they had not visited for decades. The government said Monday that immigration enforcement teams have carried out more than 5,000 raids since Labour was elected in July on businesses including nail bars, convenience stores, vape shops, restaurants and car washes, and made almost 4,000 arrests. The figures are significantly higher than the previous year, when the Conservatives were in power Britain also has deported more than 16,000 people in the same period. It will also formally scrap the Safety of Rwanda Act, which underpinned the previous Conservative government’s contentious plan to send some asylum-seekers who reach Britain by boat on a one-way trip to Rwanda.
