
FORMER NYSC DIRECTOR GENERAL, OTHERS KIDNAPPED BY BANDITS IN KATSINA
Suspected bandits have killed one person and abducted a former Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga (retd), in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The bandits also abducted at least nine others, even as they were said to have ransacked several homes, carting away valuables.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, at about 12:30 a.m., when the armed hoodlums stormed the community, with one of them said to be shooting sporadically to scare residents.
It was learned that the bandits had planned to operate and retreat quietly without shooting their weapons, but one of them chose to shoot his weapon.
It was gathered that the bandits, angered by the shooting, shot and killed the said colleague in the process.
The bandits were said to have forced the kidnapped victims to carry the body and moved it into the forest.
Following the incident, the community has been left in shock, especially over the abduction of the former NYSC boss, who is a respected leader, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.
Bakori council area is among those bedevilled by security challenges, with recent records of attacks in recent months that have led to deaths, abductions, and rustling.
A spokesperson for the police command in the state, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, did not immediately respond to calls and text messages on the matter.
