FIGHT BREAKS OUT AT PDP BoT MEETING

A fight has broken out at the headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where a meeting of the party’s board of trustees (BoT) is taking place.

The altercation began when Sunday Ude-Okoye, a party chieftain, was denied access to the meeting.

BACKGROUND

The PDP has been embroiled in a fresh leadership crisis as both Samuel Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye laying claim to the position of the national secretary.

In December 2024, the court of appeal ruled that Ude-Okoye should replace Anyanwu as the PDP national secretary.

The south-east zonal executive committee of the party nominated Udeh-Okoye to replace Anyanwu after he became the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Imo state in 2023.

Anyanwu had obtained several court injunctions preventing his removal from office.

However, in a verdict delivered on December 20, 2024, Ridwan Abdullahi, the appeal court judge, dismissed the judgment of the high court, which prevented Anyanwu’s removal, for “lacking in merit”.

Following the judgment, Ude-Okoye has been parading himself as the national secretary of the party.

But Anyanwu said he appealed the judgment and also filed for a stay of execution at the supreme court same day the appeal court delivered the verdict in favour of Ude-Okoye.

‘THE FIGHT’

On Wednesday, Anyanwu was present at the commencement of the meeting while Ude-Okoye arrived some minutes later, but was prevented from attending the meeting.

Ude-Okoye attempted to force his way in but was firmly blocked by Emmanuel Okoronkwo, a party protocol officer and Anyanwu’s aide.

His supporters then scaled the fence into the secretariat premises, overpowering Okoronkwo and others who had blocked Ude-Okoye from entering the meeting hall.

Security personnel initially struggled to maintain order at the party’s secretariat.

Adolphus Wabara, chairman of the BoT, and Umar Damagum, PDP chairman, are among the party members attending the meeting.

Ude-Okoye is currently outside the BoT meeting hall with his supporters.

Security has been beefed up at the PDP headquarters, with police and military vans patrolling the area to maintain order.

FIGHT FOR POWER LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT – AMAECHI TELLS NIGERIANS AHEAD 2027 Former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has called on Nigerians to take an active stand in defending their votes and ensuring credible leadership in the 2027 elections.Speaking during a panel discussion at an event in Abuja on Monday, January 27, Amaechi stated that power is not freely given and must be fought for, warning against complacency in the face of political challenges. He made reference to the election of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau as governor of Kano State as a case study, where mass mobilization and people’s resistance played a critical role.“The only way Shekarau became governor of Kano State was because people lined up. When they asked, ‘How many people are there?’ they said, ‘Over 500,000.’ No, I won’t kill over 500,000; announce Shekarau,” he recalled.Drawing a parallel with Ghana, Amaechi noted that popular resistance also influenced the election of the country’s last president.“You are talking and abusing people. Nobody has power and will give it to you, not even me. If you want a pastor as president, go and get one.“The politician is there in Nigeria to steal, maim, and kill to remain in power. If you think Tinubu will give it to you, you are wasting your time,” he stated.Amaechi also shared insights from his role in leading the APC to unseat the PDP in 2015, citing the resolve of the party’s leaders and their readiness to confront any opposition.According to him, former President Goodluck Jonathan conceded defeat when he realized the APC was fully prepared to resist any attempt to undermine their victory.“Power is never given; it must be fought for. If you’re not ready to fight, don’t expect change,” Amaechi said.

OBEDIENTS BEHIND ENDSARS PROTEST, TINUBU THEIR TARGET – AKANDE

OBIDIENTS BEHIND ENDSARS, TINUBU, THEIR TARGET – AKANDE The #EndSARS protest that was held across the country in October 2020 was meant to stop the political ambition of President Tinubu. According to Chief Bisi Akande, a senior APC stalwart and ally of the president, the mass demonstration was orchestrated by the Obidients to end Tinubu’s political career. Akande stated this during an interview with media personality, Edmund Obilo, uploaded on YouTube. EndSARS movement was against a reviled police unit accused of extra-judicial killings and extortion of innocent citizens. It achieved its aim of disbanding the force but was met with a violent crackdown that led to the killing of hu of protesters. Speaking on the challenges Tinubu faced on his path to the presidency, Akande said the #EndSARS protests were orchestrated by the Obidients to end Tinubu’s political career. He said the plot, which was hatched in America, was initially meant to metamorphose into a political party. “The Obidients, not Peter Obi, were behind the endsars. It was manufactured from America and brought in just to stop him. “It later became a movement to form a party but they couldn’t and also found it difficult to join whichever party you know.”, Akande submitted. During the last presidential election, the obedients was instrumental to the historical defeat of Tinubu in Lagos.
