WHY BUHARI DID NOT BACK OSINBAJO FOR PRESIDENCY – EX-PRESIDENTIAL

A former Presidential Special Adviser on Political Matters, Babafemi Ojudu, has faulted the leadership style of ex-President, Muhammadu Buhari.
Naija News reports that Ojudu, while featuring on veteran journalist, Edmund Obilo’s podcast, State Affairs, on Monday, said Buhari never backed former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo’s presidential ambition because he was not a visionary.

He, however, described Buhari as a patriot and an incorruptible leader.

Asked why Buhari didn’t back Osinbajo for the presidency, Ojudu said: “I think Buhari wasn’t a visionary. I was a very big admirer of Buhari because of what I saw in his first term and because of his attitude, pattern, and lifestyle.

“But coming up close, I didn’t see much of vision; it’s unfortunate, I’m saying [this]. He is a patriot of Nigeria and he’s incorruptible. Take it from me, his needs are few. Those are good qualities but they are not enough when you are a leader. You have to design good vision and that’s what makes us celebrate Awolowo today; he was a visionary.”

Recall that Osinbajo had contested for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket in 2022 but lost to the eventual winner, President Bola Tinubu.

Meanwhile, former presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, has refuted reports suggesting that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) revoked a plot of land belonging to Buhari.

Shehu clarified that the land was lawfully acquired for the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation by associates of the former leader and not owned by Buhari personally.

He explained that the land was allocated to the Foundation, established by Buhari’s supporters and associates, with full legal backing.

Shehu revealed that the Foundation faced challenges with the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) over what was described as an exorbitant certificate of occupancy fee.

He claimed the fee was unusually high compared to what similar organisations were charged.

While the reasons for the FCTA’s revocation remain unclear, Shehu suggested it might be an administrative error or an intentional act.

ATIKU’S CAMP ANNOUNCES OPPOSITION MERGER TO UNSEAT TINUBU in 2027 The camp of Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced that a merger between opposition parties to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 “is sealed.” Abdulrasheed Shehu, the special assistant on media to the former vice president, made the announcement via his verified Twitter handle on Friday night. Shehu stated that an alliance between the major opposition figures “is just about time.” This development comes on the heels of Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential hopeful, criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the state of the nation. Obi expressed concerns over purported institutional corruption, mismanagement, poverty, hardship, and an escalating debt profile. Although he admitted that there was no merger deal currently, the former Anambra State governor appealed to all lovers of Nigeria, irrespective of political affiliation, to unite and challenge the ruling APC. The proposed merger has also been shrouded in controversy. Prior to Obi’s media address, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 election, refuted rumours of any agreement with Atiku and Obi. Kwankwaso stated that the camp of former vice president Atiku lied to some northern religious and political leaders about a purported agreement involving him and Obi to take turns at the presidency from 2027. Meanwhile, opposition supporters see a possible merger as a viable option to unseat the APC in 2027. In 2024, Ismael Ahmed, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, addressed the potential impact of a coalition. Speaking on the Mic on Podcast, Ahmed, who previously served as a special assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on the National Social Development Programme, described an alliance between Obi and Atiku as a “potential threat.”

PETER OBI: NIGERIA’S NUMBER ONE OPPOSITION LEADER

PETER OBI: NIGERIA’S NUMBER ONE OPPOSITION LEADER – OMOKRI The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election, Peter Obi, has been named as Nigeria’s number one opposition figure. This declaration is coming ahead of the 2027 general elections, where Obi is expected to contest again after coming third in the last polls in 2023. Reno Omokri, a former media aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made the declaration in a statement on social media. Omokri, a popular commentator had previously worked for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in previous presidential elections. However, in a sharp turnaround, Omokri has now thrown his weight behind Obi, stating that any other politician who thinks they are a bigger opposition figure is simply deluded. In a Facebook post on Friday, Omokri revealed that he admires Obi’s determination and resilience in the face of obstacles. “Peter Obi is currently the Number One opposition figure in Nigeria. Bar none. Anybody in any opposition party who thinks that he is bigger than Obi right now is just deluded,” Omokri stated. Omokri also took a swipe at some politicians in opposition parties, saying they have already been “retired” by Obi, but are being kept on “political life support” by their wealth. He, however, cautioned Obi to be less Igbo-centric, appeal to his supporters to use persuasive language, and apologize for his previous comment on religious war. “If only he could be less Igbo-centric, appeal to his Obidients to use persuasive rather than abusive words and admit, then apologise for his ‘Yes Daddy” religious war’ comment against the Muslim Ummah, he would go far,” Omokri added.
