HARVEST OF PAINGUL DEATHS IN 2024
The year 2024 saw a harvest of very painful deaths of Nigerians. Some of those who passed to the great beyond were known names that include celebrities, politicians, corporate moguls and private citizens. Death is said to be a necessary end for all humans. Many of those we lost in 2024 may also have been unknown but we mourn their loss in the same way as the popular ones. May the souls of all those who died in 2024 Rest In Peace and may their families be comforted

Below we bring you some Nigerians we lost in 2024:

  1. UPDATE: Access Holdings CEO, Herbert Wigwe’s Wife, Two Kids Also Dead In US Helicopter Crash While Travelling To Watch Super Bowl

The entire banking industry and the country at large was thrown into mourning in 2024 when the influential and popular banker died in a helicopter crash in the United states. The news of the death of the Access Bank CEO gripped the entire country in shock and dominated the media for weeks. The news was made worse when it was revealed that he Wigwe’s wife and son also died in the crash

  1. Onyeka Onwenu Dies At 72

The legendary Nigerian singer was lost to the cold hands of death in 2024. Onwenu, born 31st January 1952, the late singer turned politician and rights activist was dubbed “The Elegant Stallion” by the Nigerian press. At the time of her demise, she was at a time the chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture.

  1. Mr Ibu dies at 62

The Nollywood industry mourned the demise of the legendary actor and comedian, Mr Ibu in 2024. The death of Ibu was felt in the counry and beyond. The comedian and MC had been down and on admission in the hospital prior to demise. His personal struggles with diabetes, high blood pressure also added to the misery of having to deal with conflicts that saw his wife and daughter fight over his properties including the rights to run his social media handles.

  1. Nollywood Actor, Junior Pope, Dies In A Boating Accident

The tragic death of the popular Nollywood actor Jnr Pope, had shook the entire industry and brought to the fore the issue of safety and welfare of actors. The drama following the announcement of his death and the rumours of his being risen from death through traditional means prolonged the confirmation. But when the news that he succumbed to death through drowning, threw friends, family and his fans into frenzy. Jnr Pope death was one too many in 2024.

  1. Popular Nigerian Gospel Singer Aduke Gold

Popular Nigerian gospel music musician, Aduke Ajayi, popularly known as Aduke Gold died in 2024.The death of the singer was announced on social media by fellow artiste Esther Igbeke. Igbeke posted a tribute with Aduke Gold’s picture and the caption: “A general has fallen. RIP.” Aduke Gold was loved by many because of deep and soulful gospel tunes.

  1. Ex-President confirmed dead at 98

Tanzania and Africa lost one of its foremost leaders in 2024, the Former East Africa country President Ali Hassan Mwinyi, credited with ushering the East African nation into free market economics died at age 98. His death was announced by the current President Samia Suluhu Hassan. Mwinyi succeeded Tanzania’s first post-independence president, Julius Nyerere, who left office in 1985 after 22 years in power.

  1. Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja

Nigeria lost another top military brass in 2024.The country head of the army, Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of the Army Staff died in 2024. The announcement was made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Lagbaja died at the age of 56 after a period of illness.

  1. Ibrahim Lamorde, ex-EFCC chairman

Ibrahim Lamorde, the former chairman of the anti-graft agency, EFCC, was one of high profile Nigerians who died in 2024. He was 61. Mr Lamorde died in Egypt where he had travelled for medical treatment, Born on 20 December 1962, Mr Lamorde joined the Nigerian Police in 1986 and retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021. While a police officer, he served as EFCC chairman between 2011 and 2015.

  1. Jenifer’s diary actress Aderounmu Adejumoke

Adejumoke Aderounmu, a popular actress in the series Jenifer Diary died in 2024. Tragically, the Nigerian film industry mourns the loss of Aderounmu Adejumoke Oreoluwa, a beloved actress renowned for her portrayal of “Esther” in the popular series “Jenifer Diary.” She was 40 years at the time of her demise.

  1. Ex-Yobe Governor, Bukar Abba Ibrahim

The death of former Governor of Yobe State, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim was announced in 2024. It was gathered that the former governor died while receiving treatment for a protracted illness in Saudi Arabia. It was equally gathered that Ibrahim will be buried in Saudi Arabia.

  1. Akwa Ibom first lady Patience Umo Eno

Patience Umo Eno, the first lady of Akwa Ibom state died in 2024 after an illness. Ini Ememobong, the state commissioner for information, announced the first lady’s passing in a statement issued in the early hours of Friday. Pastor Mrs. Patience Umo Eno, following an illness passed away peacefully at the hospital, on 26th September, 2024, in the presence of her family.

  1. BREAKING: Former Science and Technology minister, Ogbonnaya Onu

An All Progressives Congress, APC presidential aspirant in the 2023 election, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu also died. Onu, who was the first civilian governor in Abia State, died in Abuja., It was learnt that before his demise, the APC chieftain had battled with an undisclosed ailment. It is worth noting that Ogbonnaya Onu was one of the few Nigerian politicians who played opposition politics to the very end. He never joined the wave of Nigerian politicians who jump political parties to further their ambition.

  1. Kannywood veteran, Saratu Gidado

Veteran Kannywood actress, Saratu Gidado, popularly known as Daso died in 2024. Relatives of the late actress said she was found dead after she had gone back to sleep after Sahur, the early-morning Muslim breakfast for those observing the Ramadan fasting. Daso who died at the age of 56 was born on 17 January, 1968 in the city of Kano.She was particularly known for the comical roles she played as an aggressive and mischievous woman. She made her debut in 2000 in a movie titled Linzami Da Wuta, produced by Sarauniya Movies. Other hits that led to the late actress’s stardom include Nagari, Gidauniya, Mashi, and Sansani followed.
14. CHIEF EMMANUEL IWUANYANWU

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President General of Ohannaeze Ndigbo, is dead. His death was confirmed in a statement on Thursday by his son, Jide.

The statement read, “The Iwuanyanwu family of Umuohii Atta, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State announces the demise of our patriarch, Engr Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu-Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo.

“Chief Iwuanyanwu died on Thursday, July 25, 2024, after a brief illness. He was aged 82.
15. JIMMY CARTER
Jimmy Carter, a former president of the United States of America, USA, has died at 100 years.
The 39th president of the US and a Nobel Peace Prize recipient passed away in Plains, Georgia on Sunday.
His death was announced in a terse statement from the Carter Center.
Carter had been in hospice care at his home in Plains since February.
His wife, former first lady Rosalynn Carter, had died November 19 at age 96 and Carter attended her memorial services in a wheelchair.
Jimmy Carter, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, was a member of a Georgia farming family and served as a state senator and governor before defeating incumbent Gerald Ford in a close 1976 presidential election.
He served one term, from January 1977 to January 1981.
