ARMED THUGS ALLEGEDLY SPONSORED By TINUBU ASSOCIATE, MC OLUOMO ATTACK NUJ SECRETARIAT IN ABUJA

There was pandemonium on the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council Secretariat on Thursday located at Utako, Abuja, as a group loyal to the embattled Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo attacked a group under the aegis of Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria (BCAN) an affiliate of National Union of Roads Transport Workers (NURTW) at the venue.

The group who had hired the main hall of the secretariat for their official inauguration of the organisation got more than what they bargained for when a group of thugs wearing caps with the portrait photograph of MC Oluomo violently invaded the hall and disrupted the event.

Trouble started when the thugs led by one Segun Aluwaye who claimed to be the chairman of Berger Park forced the main gate of the NUJ Secretariat open and unleashed mayhem on the government officials, guests and participants, injuring many of them in the process.

The attackers brandishing dangerous weapons such as machetes, knives, bottles and sticks chased out the participants in the hall as they destroyed cameras, chairs, tables, fans and other valuable items.

It was gathered that the attackers arrived at the premises of the Secretariat to carry out the terror shortly after the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, who was the special guest of honour left the venue of the event.

People were seen running in different directions scurrying for safety.

Some of the security agents including Nigerian police, Department of State Service(DSS) and Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) invited for the event were and staff of the NUJ were not spared in the attack.

Speaking after the incident, the Chairman of the association, Comrade, Prince Israel Ade Adeshola, expressed shock and described the incident as unfortunate.

“We are at the NUJ Secretariat today to inaugurate our association Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria (BCAN). In the cause of the event, some miscreants stormed the venue of the event with cutlasses, dager, knives and other dangerous weapons and chased all the dignitaries and invited guests out of the hall while they injured many of our members.

“They were wearing face caps bearing Oluomo pictures and destroyed many items.”

Israel said the inauguration of the association was aimed at combating and eradicating rampant cases of “One Chance” in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and keeping accurate data of conductors.

They also attacked security agents including police, DSS operatives and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO). They chased people into different offices and injured them.”

Meanwhile, it cannot be ascertained as at time of filing this report if there was any arrest but police vehicles have been stationed in front of the Secretariat to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

The association had vowed to take necessary action against the ignoble act just as they called on President Bola Tinubu and all security agencies to call MC Oluomo and his thugs to order.

FUBARA CHALLENGES STOPPING FEDERAL REVENUE ALLOCATION IN COURT Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has challenged a court ruling that banned the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from disbursing monthly allocations to his state. The federal government has confirmed that it has stopped the October monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) revenue payment to the state. According to the Spokesperson of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, on Friday, the decision to stop the payment was made in respect of a court order. Meanwhile, Fubara’s legal team, led by Mr. Yusuf Ali, SAN, has filed a motion at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, seeking to overturn the ruling. The ruling, issued by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court on October 30, was made in response to a lawsuit filed by the faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Hon. Martins Amaewhule. The lawsuit sought to stop the CBN from releasing funds to the state, citing Fubara’s refusal to present the state’s 2024 Appropriation Bill as directed by the court. Governor Fubara, however, has argued that the Amaewhule-led faction had ceased to be legitimate lawmakers after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Fubara’s appeal, registered as CA/ABJ/CV/1303/2024, was considered alongside five additional appeals stemming from the same case. The ruling date will be communicated later.

JAPA: ONE OUT OF EVERY FOUR NIGERIANS WANT TO LEAVE – NBS The National Bureau of Statistics(NBS), says one out of four individuals between ages 15 years and above would like to leave their communities permanently or at least temporarily. The NBS said this in its General Household Survey- Panel (GHS-Panel) Wave 5 2023/2024 unveiled in Abuja on Thursday. The report showed that more men aged 15 years and above wanted to leave their communities representing 31. 2 per cent compared to women at 19.3 per cent. It said among age groups, 34.5 per cent of people between 20 and 30 years of age would like to migrate. “This was followed by those between ages 15 and 18 at 26.9 per cent and those between ages 31 and 64 at 25 per cent. “Among people ages 65 and above, only 6.5 per cent said that they would like to leave their communities.” The report said that among those who would like to migrate, 35.3 per cent would like to move to Abuja and 26.6 per cent would like to relocate to another country. The report revealed that those in the Southern zones predominantly reported that they would like to relocate to another country, while individuals in the Northern zones preferred to move to Abuja or another state. The NBS said that nationally, 45.4 per cent of households had at least one former household member who had relocated within and outside the country. According to the report, half of those former household members are females. The report said that marriage was the main reason why former household members had relocated at 28.2 per cent, followed by those who had gone to live with relatives or friends at 21.2 per cent. “This was followed by those who went to look for/start a new job or business at 14.6 per cent . It showed that urban households were less likely to have a former household member who had migrated, with a reported share of 37 per cent compared to 49.3 per cent of rural area households. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the GHS-Panel is Nigeria’s nationally representative longitudinal household survey which began in 2010 and had implemented five waves of the survey. The panel nature of the data enables tracking household-level changes in critical areas of welfare, work, and socio-economic outcomes over time, yielding insights for policy.
