I DIDN’T ORDER SHUTDOWN OF OIL COMPANIES – FUBARA
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has refuted a viral social media claim that he ordered the shutdown of oil operations in Rivers State, according to The Cable.
On Wednesday, a federal high court in Abuja prohibited the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from distributing financial allocations to the Rivers State government.
The ruling was issued by Judge Joyce Abdulmalik in response to a lawsuit from the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martins Amaewhule.
The court determined that funds from the federation account should not be released until a lawful appropriation act is passed by a validly constituted assembly.
The misleading post circulating online stated: “Breaking News: Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara Shuts Down NNPC and All Oil Companies in Rivers State, Declares ‘No Allocation for Rivers State, No Oil for Nigeria.’”
It claimed that Governor Fubara ordered the shutdown, which led to Nigeria’s fall in global oil production rankings.
The post also suggested that Fubara has challenged Minister Nyesom Wike and President Bola Tinubu to respond to this situation.
In a statement to The Cable on Thursday, Fubara labeled the post as false.
He affirmed, “We believe in the rule of law and have filed an appeal against the high court ruling. We will see this through to a logical conclusion and trust that justice will prevail.
“I urge Nigerians to disregard the false report about shutting down oil operations in the state.”
