NORTH HAS MORE POOR PEOPLE, DESERVES LARGER ALLOCATION – MINISTERIAL NOMINEE

Nentawe Yilwatda, ministerial nominee for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has disclosed that about 65 percent of poor people in Nigeria live in the North.

Yilwatda, hence, said the region deserves more allocation based on needs assessment.

He stated this on Wednesday while speaking at the Senate during his screening for confirmation as a Minister and member of the Federal Executive Council, FEC.

“Sixty-five percent of poor people live in the North while 35 percent live in the South.

“We should talk about what is needed in each local government and states, revenue allocation should be shared by how poor or rich states are,”
Yilwatda said while speaking on what methods should be deployed to alleviate poverty in Nigeria.

He was thereafter asked to take a ‘bow and leave’.

Yilwatda was nominated by President Bola Tinubu last week to replace dismissed Betta Edu, erstwhile Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
