NATIVE DOCTOR, FATHER ARRESTED OVER TRAGIC DEATH OF SON WHO SOUGHT FORTIFICATION FROM SHRINE

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 67-year-old Uwakwe Eze for conspiring with a 48-year-old native doctor, Enuwa Odugu, to murder Odugu’s son, Chikwado Celestine Eze.

A few days ago, social media buzzed with reports of Chikwado’s tragic death. The 26-year-old had received a visa to travel abroad and sought fortification at the native doctor’s shrine before his journey.

According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the native doctor has confessed to the crime, claiming that the boy died due to his failure to follow the ritual’s guidelines.

“The Enugu State Police Command is making the public aware of the recent occurrence and handling of two separate murder cases. In the first case, a native doctor, one Enuwa Odugu “m”, aged 48, and Uwakwe Eze “m”, aged 67, were arrested for conspiracy and murder of Eze’s 26-year-old son, one Chikwado Celestine Eze.

“The incident is alleged to have occurred when Uwakwe Eze took his son to the native doctor’s shrine for rituals intended to fortify him with charms.

“However, during the ritual, the deceased was buried in a coffin but he unfortunately died in the process. He was rushed to the hospital and confirmed dead by the attending doctor, and his body deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

“The native doctor confessed to the crime and the previous performance of such rituals, attributing the death of the victim to his non-adherence to certain ritualistic rules he earlier prescribed for him.”

Ndukwe added that “the case is under investigation, and the suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.”

TINUBU’S TAX REFORM BILL DEAD ON ARRIVAL – NDUME Senator Ali Ndume has said the tax reform bill of President Bola Tinubu administrarion is dead on arrival. Ndume stated this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Tuesday. He said that Northern leaders were totally against the bill because because it was against the north. Ndume added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was supposed to reform governance not impose another tax on Nigerians. He urged the president to listen to the advice of the Northern Governors’ Forum and immediately withdraw the bills. Ndume said, “Our people are saying they don’t want the VAT bill, they don’t even want to hear about it. That is why we are going to make it dead on arrival. President Tinubu should heed the advice of the National Economic Council (NEC) and the Northern Governors’ Forum and withdraw the bills immediately. “Nigerians are willing to pay taxes but only when they can afford it. Right now, people are struggling to survive. Let people live first before you start asking them for taxes.” Ndume said it would be fair to shut the bill down, hinting that he had started rallying support among colleagues to reject the bills. “What he needs to do is to withdraw the bill. Then go back to our people, educate and make us understand. We are representing the people, and they have already made their stance clear. “The governors and traditional rulers have said that the bill is not good. So, the best course of action is to withdraw it immediately,” he added.

OGUN PENSIONERS THANK FOR N20,000 WAGE INCREASE

OGUN PENSIONERS THANK GOVERNOR FOR N20,000 WAGE INCREASE The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Ogun State branch, on Tuesday, commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for the wage increase extended to all categories of its members in the state. The union, in a letter titled “New Wage Increase to Ogun Pensioners: Expression of Gratitude,” signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Waidi Oloyede; Secretary, Comrade Bola Lawal, and the Treasurer, Comrade O. Ogabi, expressed their gratitude to the governor for his kindness and consideration towards the state retirees at all times. It noted that the state government started paying the N20,000 wage increase from October 2024. According to the union, such a wage increase for pensioners was last realised 16 years ago, adding that since then, no visible increase had been made to cut across all emolument strata. “Your Excellency, we cannot but recognise the many lofty gestures accorded to us by your amazing administration. “These include prompt and regular payment of monthly pensions, steady release of accrued gratuities, and the financial gestures to cushion the effects of the removal of the fuel subsidy, among others. “The executive and the entire body of Ogun State pensioners immensely appreciate your sincerity of purpose, your love, friendliness, and godliness towards us, the elderly. Thank you so much, sir,” the letter further stated. The union, however, pleaded with the governor to look into the consequential review of pensions for long-standing retirees, in line with the Federal Government Circular on Consequential Adjustment of Pensions for those who retired before the commencement of the Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2019.
