I ALLOWED FUBARA TO GOVERN INDEPENDENTLY – WIKE
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has refuted allegations of exerting godfatherism over Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara.
During an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Wike dismissed claims that Fubara had knelt before him to seek forgiveness, stating, “What offense did he commit? Never, he did not kneel down for me.”
Wike emphasized that he has allowed Fubara to govern independently and questioned the definition of godfatherism, asserting, “Have I not left Fubara alone?.”
He criticized Fubara for what he described as impunity and failure to adhere to court judgments, urging the governor to take responsibility for his actions.
In the broader context, Wike expressed concern about governance in Nigeria, implying that leaders often evade accountability.
He remarked, “Mr. President cannot as the father of the nation say this should be done and you started laying blames,” indicating a need for stronger adherence to democratic principles.
This controversy highlights ongoing tensions within Rivers State’s political landscape as Wike navigates his role in the federal government while maintaining a complex relationship with state leadership.
The allegations of godfatherism reflect deeper issues of political loyalty and governance in Nigeria.
Wike’s comments come amid growing scrutiny of Fubara’s administration, with Wike previously stating that Fubara is “derailing democracy” in the state.
