POLICE REINTRODUCE CONTROVERSIAL e-CMR, URGE MOTORISTS TO REGISTER

The Nigerian Police force has reintroduced the enforcement of the earlier suspended digitalized Central Motor Registry (e-CMR).

The Police said e-CMR is an advanced digital system designed to improve vehicle security, fight crime and simplify vehicle registration.

This was made known in a post on the Police X handle on Friday.

According to the post, one can conveniently register and manage vehicle information online, track stolen vehicles and prevent fraudulent activities.

The post reads, “Good day, good citizens of Nigeria!

“The Nigeria Police Force has enhanced vehicle security with the introduction of the E-Central Motor Registry (E-CMR). This advanced digital system is designed to improve vehicle security, fight crime, and simplify vehicle registration. E-CMR ensures that every vehicle has a digital footprint. You can conveniently register and manage vehicle information online, track stolen vehicles, and prevent fraudulent activities. Let’s work together to make our roads safer!”

The Police has earlier announced plans to commence the enforcement of the digitalized Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) on the 29th of July, 2024.

However, following the controversy that trailed the announcement, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun ordered an immediate suspension of the plan to commence the enforcement of the e-CMR.

The Police Force at the time said the suspension was to give ample opportunity for mass enlightenment and education of the public on the process, benefits and effectiveness of e-CMR.
