PRESIDENCY EXPLAINS BICHI’S REMOVAL AS DSS BOSS, ACCUSES HIM OF SABOTAGE
President Bola Tinubu removed Yusuf Bichi as Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) due to alleged sabotage of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu’s efforts to combat terrorism, The Guardian reports. Sources revealed that Ribadu felt Bichi was hindering his coordination of the President’s directives to address security threats.
Tinubu appointed Mohammed Mohammed as the new Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Adeola Ajayi as Bichi’s replacement. Ajayi, a seasoned intelligence officer, has received extensive training and has served in various states.
The DSS spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunanya, described Ajayi as “thoroughbred” and “versatile.” Ajayi rose through the ranks to Assistant Director-General and has served in multiple states.
Mohammed, the new NIA chief, has had an illustrious career in foreign service since 1995. He has served in various roles, including Director and head of the Nigerian Mission to Libya.
Tinubu charged the new security chiefs to reposition the agencies for better results and tackle security challenges through enhanced collaboration. He thanked the outgoing DGs for their services and wished them success in their future endeavors.
