CJN, ARIWOOLA, IS A NEPOSIT – CHIDI ODINKALU
Kayode Ariwoola, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, faces allegations of nepotism for handing key judicial positions to his family members.
The outgoing CJN has been criticised by various individuals in the judicial space, for his appointment of his son, brother, and daughter-in-law as Judges and auditor of the Federal High Court, High Court of the Federal Capital Territory and the National Judicial Council (NJC) respectively. He has also been accused of handing the seat of Justice of the Court of Appeal to another family member, all of which he allegedly executed within two years of his tenure in office.
He is expected to vacate the office and position of Chief Justice of Nigeria on August 22nd, 2024, as he attains the 70years mandatory age of retirement. With his tenure as CJN drawing to a close, Ariwoola’s actions have been deemed an abuse of authority and a blatant disregard for the Judicial Code of Conduct which prohibits nepotism by judges in the judicial system.

Ariwoola has concluded his tenure as Chief Justice of Nigeria with a shameless display of favoritism towards his family members according to Nigerian lawyer, human rights activist, and professor, Chidi Anselm Odinkalu.
In his words; “As Chief Justice of the federation, Olukayode Ariwoola’s most memorable legacy would be the speed with which he tended to the neglect of his family members and beloved village in Oyo state.”
