ENUGU COMMUNITY RECEIVES LP, PDP LEGISLATORS, SETS ASIDE PARTY DIFFERENCES
It was a joyful and momentous occasion yesterday, Saturday, August 17, as Akama Oghe Community in Ezeagu local government area of Enugu State, friends and we’ll wishers, setting aside political party differences, rolled out drums to receive two of their illustrious sons who are currently serving as legislators in the federal and state parliaments.
Rt. Hon. Sunday Syracuse Umeha, a member of Labour Party (LP), is representing Ezeagu and Udi Federal Constituency, in the House of Representatives, while Rt. Hon. Chima Emmanuel Obieze, a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is representing Ezeagu Constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly.
The two lawmakers are from Akama Oghe Community.
The premises of Government Technical College (GTC), Akama Oghe, venue for the reception, was filled to capacity as people from all walks of life, politicians and non-politician, came to witness the event.
The reception was planned to coincide with the annual Iwa ji (New Yam)/Highmass festival, which started since 1919, and which unarguably is the highest festival in the community.
In their welcome address presented by the President General, Akama Oghe Town Union, Comrade Valentine Okeke, the community extolled the enviable qualities of the two lawmakers, Rt. Hon Sunday Umeha, and Rt. Hon. Chima Obieze, and described them as worthy ambassadors of the community.
The community however used the occasion to appeal to the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, to present certificate of recognition to their Igwe-Elect, Chief Onyeka Ofodile, and said that this would help to foster peace, unity and development in the community.
They reminded the governor that Chief Onyeka Ofodile was elected as traditional ruler of the community since 2018; but that the state government was yet to issue him certificate of recognition.
In his own address, the Igwe-Elect of Akama Oghe Community, Chief Onyeka Ofodile, appealed to the people of Akama Oghe to continue to live in peace and understanding for sustainable development.
Chief Onyeka also thanked the state government for selecting Akama Oghe as one of the beneficiaries of its Smart School project and for also including the community in the CSDP/WASH project, and assured the government of continued loyalty and support by the people of Akama Community.
The Traditional Prime Minister of Akama Oghe community, Chief Edwin Umeh performed the Iwa ji ceremony, signaling the commencement of eating of New Yam by people of the community
Politicians from both the political divides attended the occasion, including Chief Chijioke Edeoga, Labour Party Governorship candidate in 2023 election as well as Hon. Chimaobj Atu, member representing Enugu North/Enugu South in the House of Representatives.
Various dance and cultural groups came in their numbers to add colour to the occasion
