
PROTEST: UK GOVT ISSUES TRAVEL ADVISORY TO CITIZENS IN NIGERIA
The British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued a travel advisory for Nigeria, warning citizens against traveling to certain parts of the country due to the upcoming #EndBadGovernance nationwide protest.
In a statement published on the UK government’s website, the FCDO advised British nationals to exercise caution when traveling to Nigeria, citing the possibility of widespread public demonstrations across the country.
The advisory specifically identified Abia State, non-riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers and Akwa Ibom States, Anambra State, and Imo State as potentially risky areas, warning citizens to avoid all but essential travel to these regions.
Additionally, the FCDO warned against traveling to the Nigeria-Niger Republic land border, which has been closed by Nigerian authorities in response to the political situation in Niger.
The travel advisory comes ahead of the planned #EndBadGovernance protest, set to begin on August 1, 2024, which has been gaining momentum in recent days.British nationals planning to travel to Nigeria are advised to research their destinations thoroughly, check with local authorities for the latest information, and ensure they have valid travel insurance.
