OHANAEZE REJECTS TINUBU’S MINISTRY OF LIVESTOCK, SAYS IT’S REINTRODUCTION OF RUGA

The apex Igbo socio-cultural youth organisation, Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has rejected the proposed creation of the Ministry of Livestock by the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government

Speaking to journalists in Enugu, Enugu State capital on Monday, the National President General of OYC, Igboayaka Igboayaka, asked President Tinubu to drop the idea of creating a Ministry of Livestock, noting that it would spark a tribal war between the Fulanis and other tribes in the country.

Igboayaka recalled that former President Muhammadu Buhari tried to force RUGA down the throat of Nigerians but it was vehemently resisted and rejected by well meaning Nigerians.

He said “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should hasten up to cancel the proposed ministry of livestock as initiated by ethnic land grabbers of Fulani political oligarchy through Miyetti Allah.”

According to him, “Unfortunately, President Tinubu was misled on Tuesday July 9, 2024 into inaugurating the Presidential Committee on Implementation of Livestock Reforms which was tactically keyed in as a means to address obstacles to agricultural productivity and open up new opportunities which benefit farmers, herders, processors and distributors in the livestock-farming value chain, but in actual sense it is reintroduction of RUGA from back door.”

He added that “It’s historic that the Yorubas have suffered untold ethnic farmers crisis and killings by Fulani herders, therefore President Bola Ahmed Tinubu creation of livestock ministry is an attempt to arm Fulani herders and institutionalised a monster that will pose a threat to consume Yoruba farmers.”

He said “It’s pathetic, President Tinubu is not aware that those behind the proposed ministry of livestock are the same cabals that have constantly pushed for establishment of RUGA in Nigeria for the past 12 years from former President Goodluck Jonathan administration to former president Mohammadu Buhari administration.”

Speaking further, Igboayaka said, “It’s unfortunate and unacceptable to create ministries or agencies according to the interest, needs or demands of one section of the country or a particular tribe instead for national interest.

“Creation of livestock ministry as championed by Miyetti Allah is a Fulani livestock agricultural project as a means to penetrate and grab lands that belong to other tribes for settlement in disguise of agricultural purpose.”

He stressed that the people of the South-East “Will resist any form of cattle colony in Igbo land that serve interest of Fulani herders, with its further target of land grabbing institutionalisation of fulani community settlement in Igbo land will ultimately be resisted with the last pint of our blood” Comrade Igboayaka vowed.”I urge other ethnic groups, the middle Belt who are majorly the target of Fulani herders ethnic cleansing and land grabbing to rise up and resist the implementation of the so-called livestock Reform.”

BISHOP KUKAH TUTORS TINUBU’S SPOKESPERSONS ON COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES; ITS NOT ABOUT INSULTING PEOPLE Founder of The Kukah Centre, Bishop Mathew Kukah, has emphasized the need for better communication strategies from President Bola Tinubu’s Spokespersons, urging them to focus on effectively conveying the government’s message rather than resorting to insults or dismissing differing opinions.Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Tuesday, Kukah called on the administration to engage Nigerians constructively, especially during a time of widespread poverty and economic hardship. He stressed that clear communication is essential for reassuring the public and fostering patience as the government works through its proposed reforms. Bishop Kukah said, “What I can say is that this government must respond urgently to the issues of the day. They are issues of massive impoverishment in Nigeria. You can see the frustration on the faces of people, husbands, wives and children. “I am convinced that this government has lofty ideas, but there is a total absence of a constructive strategy of engagement.” He urged government officials to communicate effectively, stating, “This government needs communication strategies. The Nigerian government needs to convince Nigerians that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and encourage them to be a little patient. “I see the conversation around local government autonomy, tax reform bills and others. But the government has to communicate with the people. So when people call themselves government spokespersons- it is not about insulting people, or thinking others can’t have different views. But their job is how the ideas of the government are communicated. We need to have an idea of the government reforms. “We are happy to hear of the return of Port Harcourt Refinery. And the government needs to tell people what and what to expect at so-so time.” Bishop Kukah also cautioned against the government’s tendency to blame predecessors for current challenges. “By now, Nigerians are tired of hearing the government saying “we didn’t think things were this bad”. They must have had an idea of what was going on before contesting. So, when they say we have $30 million in our reserves. They should know the money should increase before they leave office. People come into government to solve problems and not to compound them. And you must have round pegs in round holes. “Government must not take the loyalty of people for granted. Winning elections isn’t about getting into power and then waiting to win another one,” he added.

UPROAR IN HOUSE OF REPS OVER TAX REFORM BILLS

UPROAR IN HOUSE OF REPS OVER TAX REFORM BILLS There was a shouting match among members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday over President Bola Tinubu’s controversial Tax Reform Bills. Tempers flared when the House spokesperson and Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee, Akin Rotimi, made a remark concerning the tax bills. The commotion began when Rotimi, standing in for the absent Committee Chair, Boma Goodhead, attempted to present a report on Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring. Rotimi said: “My name is Akin Rotimi Jr. I represent the people of Ekiti North comprising Ikole and Oye Local Governments. Mr. Speaker, I am from Ekiti State, the first state whose National Assembly Caucus has unanimously endorsed the tax bills.” His remark led to an uproar, with lawmakers vocally opposing the statement and chanting “No, No, No!” Intervening, the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, said Rotimi’s remark should not be taken seriously. The Speaker cautioned him, saying: “Restrict yourself to the subject matter. We are not discussing tax bills, as this is a very controversial issue. On your behalf, I withdraw the statement.” Rotimi apologized and retracted his comment, but the lawmakers remained dissatisfied. They demanded he step down the report entirely. Yielding to pressure, Rotimi conceded, saying: “I seek the leave of the Speaker and honourable members to step down the report.”
