GOVT, LABOUR TO REACH ACCORD ON MINIMUM WAGE TODAY – GOV UZODINMA
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has assured that the Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage would reach a decision by today, Friday.
Speaking after the committee’s five-hour session on Thursday, Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors Forum of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stated that the committee would finalize the figure during Friday’s meeting at 11 am.
Regarding rumors of a settled amount at N105,000, Governor Uzodimma debunked the claims, stating that the final figure would be disclosed after Friday’s meeting.
The committee convened at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja for its previous session on Wednesday.
The meeting saw the presence of government representatives, including the Ministers of Finance, Budget and National Planning, and Labour, alongside officials from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Head of Service of the Federation.
Representatives from Organised Labour, such as the Presidents of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), were also in attendance.
The decision to suspend the strike on Tuesday was as a result of the committee’s commitment to daily meetings until an agreement on a new minimum wage was reached.
President Bola Tinubu instructed the committee to progress the process and provide the figures urgently. He reiterated his commitment to a wage above N60,000, while the TUC and NLC expressed flexibility from their initial demand of N494,000.
