PETER OBI SUPPORTERS MOBILISE, SET UP HARMONISATION COMMIITEE AHEAD OF 2027

Supporters of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), have commenced mobilisation and have even set up a harmonisation committee, ahead of the 2027 polls.

A statement by the Chairman, Obidient Harmonization Committee (OHC), Joseph Enan Maigari, said the structure of the Obidient Harmonization Team had received wide acceptance across the country and the nominated volunteers have accepted to work for the former Anambra State governor.

“Everyone is aware that we have been assigned a delicate task whose execution, success or otherwise, will have critical and far- reaching consequences for our land and nation in the coming years.

“It is an awesome responsibility. It is important to bear constantly in mind the title of the act that has brought us into being – the Promotion of Peace, Unity, Reconciliation, Harmonisation and grassroots mobilisation.

“Absolutely central to our concern in the work of our Team is helping our land and people to achieve genuine, real and not cheap and spurious reconciliation.

“Some view the team with considerable misgiving and indeed suspicion and even hostility because they have convinced themselves that the Team is going to degenerate into pursuit of selfish interest and not promotion of all interest and the assumption is that it would be miscreants from one side only.”

He said the group was meant to be a part of the process of the healing of its members, Nigerians, the party and the nation.

“We are a wounded people because of the failure of the past and present leadership, no matter on which side we stood. We all stand in need of healing. We on the team are not superhuman.

“We too need forgiving and to forgive ourselves in order to be able to wrestle the oppressors holding this country captive since 1960,” he noted.

He expressed hope that the members of the committee across the country would provide quality leadership as they forge ahead into the 2027 Presidential election.

“We are privileged to be on this team to assist our land, our people to come to terms with our dark past once and for all. They say that those who suffer from amnesia, those who forget the past, are doomed to repeat it.

“It is not dealing with the past to say simply, let bygones be bygones, for then they won’t be bygones.

“Our country, our society would be doomed to the instability of uncertainty – the uncertainty engendered by not knowing when yet another scandal of the past would hit the headlines, when another skeleton would be dragged out of the cupboard.

“We will be engaging in what should be a corporate nationwide process of healing through contrition and forgiveness. To be able to forgive one needs to know whom one is forgiving and why. That is why the truth is so central to this whole exercise.

“But we will be engaging in something that is ultimately deeply spiritual, deeply personal. That is why I have been appealing to all our people – this is not something just for the committee or team alone. We are in it, all of us together, Muslim and Christian, North and South, we this rainbow people of God.

“That is why I will appeal to our different communities of faith (Christian, Muslim) to uphold the Committee in fervent prayer and intercession that we may be showered with the divine blessings of wisdom, courage and discernment.

“We have seen a miracle unfold before our very eyes and the world has marvelled as Obidients, all Obidients, with how they made a statement in the last most controversial elections in the history of our great country.

“The end of oppression and evil in Nigerian leadership is near, and we hope that we all can work together with a common dream and purpose to create a new Nigeria.

“The miracle must endure. Freedom and justice must become realities for all our people and we have the privilege of helping to heal the hurts of the past, to transcend the alienations and the hostilities of that past so that we can close the door on that past and concentrate in the present and our glorious future,” Maigari added.

North West: Khalifa Sharif Anta, Alhaji Usman Graham, Abubakar Yawale, Mrs Deborah Bwala-Maina. The party initially scheduled the sale of forms between February 24 and March 5, with a March 7 deadline for submission. The Anambra PDP governorship primary is set for April 5, followed by an appeal committee sitting on April 8. However, an insider in the PDP, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that aspirants are avoiding the party due to internal crises. The source noted that the ongoing leadership crisis has made aspirants hesitant to invest in the platform. “As of now, no aspirant has purchased the PDP Anambra governorship nomination forms. They are hesitant due to the party’s instability. The crisis has weakened the party’s influence across different levels, making aspirants cautious about spending such a huge sum,” the source stated. He further explained that the turmoil, affecting state chapters, zonal bodies, and national organs, has eroded confidence in the party’s ability to conduct a fair primary. In response to the situation, another party official disclosed that the PDP National Working Committee has revised the election timetable, extending the sale of forms to March 10 to encourage participation. “The NWC is reviewing the issues, and a revised timetable will be made public before the end of the week. The deadline for purchasing forms has now been extended to March 10,” the source said. Additionally, a stakeholders’ interactive session with the NWC is scheduled for March 10 at the PDP national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Abuja. The PDP’s internal troubles have worsened due to a dispute over the National Secretary position, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu and former National Youth Leader, Sunday Ude-Okoye, battling for the role. The case is scheduled for hearing and judgment at the Supreme Court on March 10. The situation escalated further after a controversial South-South zonal congress held on February 22, which lacked the approval of PDP governors, creating more divisions within the Board of Trustees, National Working Committee, and National Executive Committee. PDP National Deputy Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha, acknowledged the party’s crisis but remained optimistic about its chances in Anambra. “I am not surprised by the situation, but I know the National Organising Secretary has set the ball rolling for the governorship election,” Osuoha said. He admitted that internal disputes, litigation, and factional struggles have discouraged aspirants but insisted that PDP remains a formidable force. “Yes, there are unresolved issues from the congresses, but PDP has structures across the country, and these matters will be settled soon. Anambra has always been politically challenging, but things will improve,” he added. However, PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, argued that the wider disillusionment with Nigeria’s electoral process is the main reason aspirants are reluctant to contest. “People are tired of investing millions in an election process that lacks credibility. Even if you win fairly, political interference from the presidency can overturn results. That’s why many are hesitant,” Osadolor stated. Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has confirmed that the Anambra State governorship election will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Attempts to reach PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and the National Organising Secretary for comments were unsuccessful as they neither answered calls nor responded to messages.

    WE WON’T HONOUR ASSEMBLY’S ULTIMATUM – RIVERS GOVT The Rivers State Government has reacted to the 48-hour ultimatum issued to Governor Siminalayi Fubara to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule. In its response, the government stated that it would not comply with the ultimatum as it had not yet received an official letter conveying the summon. The House of Assembly had on Monday during its plenary given Fubara 48 hours to bring the appropriation bill following the Supreme Court judgement. The House immediately communicated its decision to the governor in a letter dated March 3rd and signed by Amaewhule. The ultimatum expired today, Wednesday. But the state government in a letter addressed to the Right Honourable Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly dated March 5th said it had not received the said resolutions of the Assembly. The government in the letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, said its response was based on a letter it came across on the social media. The government said: “As at the close of work on Tuesday, 4th March, 2025, we are yet to receive the said letter. Neither the office of the governor nor the deputy governor’s office, nor the office of the Accountant-General of the state has received the the said letter”. The government told the House that the governor had in his state broadcast on March 2nd said notwithstanding his personal opinion on the Supreme Court judgement he would as a law-abiding citizen obey and implement the decisions in accordance with the rule of law and in the best interest of the people of Rivers State. The letter added: “We have since been in contact with our lawyers, who are still awaiting the certified true copy of the judgement of the Supreme Court and hereby reassure you and all the good people of Rivers State that as soon as his Excellency receives the judgement, he will strive to implement same in the best interest of our people”.
