ONDO GUBER: APC DIDN’T HOLD PRIMARY  – INEC

The All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ondo State may not participate in the November 16, 2024 gubernatorial election in the state as Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) Electoral Officers declared that the party didn’t conduct governorship primary election on April 20, 2024 in the state.

Reports submitted by INEC Electoral Officers, who monitored the APC governorship primary election across the 18 local government areas of the state, revealed that there were no elections in the designated Registration Areas.

According to some reports in circulation signed and submitted by individual Electoral Officers which were received by one Dimas F. Emmanuel, ACLO, INEC headquarters, Abuja, dated 30 April, 2024, the Electoral Officers revealed that there were no election materials made available at the polling stations.

They revealed that members of the party came out en mass to perform their civic rights but were disappointed as there were no election materials and the election committee which ought to conduct the election did not show up.

According to Abai C.O (Mrs.), the INEC Electoral Officer, who monitored Ifedore Local Government Area, wrote that “The election of All Progressives Congress Governorship Primary was not held in presence due to the unavailability of the election materials to be used and the absence of the Electoral organising committee in all the 10 Registration Areas till Monitoring team left late in the evening.”

In her report, Owogbo O.O. (Mrs.), the INEC Electoral Officer for Akoko South-East Local Government Area, said: “In some of the Wards, the electorates arranged themselves in queues according to the number of contestants with representatives, counted the number of the electorates, but their efforts were rendered inconsequential as there were no election materials deployed for the conduct of the election.”

She gave the statistics of the Wards she wrote her reports on to include Epinmin I and Epinmin II Ifira, Ipe I, Ipe II, Ipesi, Isua I, Isua II, Isua III and Isua IV.

In Ilaje Local Government Area of the state, where the incumbent Governor Aiyedatiwa hails from, Okeniyi Bayo Fatai, the INEC Electoral Officer, who monitored the local government explained that “The party members in the Local Government all converged at the designated venues to exercise their civic responsibilities.

“Although INEC monitors were present in all wards for the assignment, but the event was characterized by non-availability of election materials across the 12 RAs in the LGA.

“In view of the above, Election did not take place in Ilaje LGA and results were not given to the monitors.”

Meanwhile, the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee led by Usman Ododo, governor of Kogi State, had declared Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa winner of the party’s primary election purportedly conducted on April 20 and April 21, 2024.

Governor Aiyedatiwa was said to have polled 2533 out of 3831 valid votes in Akoko South-East.

He also was declared to have won Ilaje, his local government with 2485 out of the 7213 valid votes.

Other 15 governorship aspirants on the platform of APC had cried foul, saying the party’s primary election never held.

None of the other contestants was able to vote for themselves in the purported primary election.

A video clip in circulation revealed that Governor Aiyedatiwa could not vote in his Ilaje Local Government Area as well.Olusola Oke, SAN, Wale Akinterinwa, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, Olugbenga Edema, Diran Iyantan, Prof. Faduyile Francis, Engr. ABACHA’S FORMER AIDE, AL-MUSTAPHA, JOINS EL-RUFAI IN SDP Hamza Al-Mustapha, a former aide to deceased military leader, General Sani Abacha, has officially joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Al-Mustapha, accompanied by his team, arrived at the SDP headquarters in Abuja, where he was warmly received by party leaders and supporters. He said his move to the party signals his commitment to leadership based on justice, security, and progress. This move is coming after former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the SDP. El-Rufai had accused the APC of failing to abide by its founding principles, adding that the government is now commercialised and everything has a price tag. The former governor vowed to move against the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration during the 2027 polls. Al-Mustapha was the Chief Security Officer to former military ruler General Sani Abacha during his administration from 1993 to 1998. He was known as one of Abacha’s closest associates during the military regime. Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Ata, has dismissed former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s recent political moves as desperate attempts to remain relevant, declaring that his political career is practically over. Ata accused El-Rufai of engaging in “political mischief” after failing to secure a ministerial appointment in President Bola Tinubu’s administration due to his inability to pass a security screening. He further criticized El-Rufai’s tenure as Kaduna governor, describing it as a period marked by insecurity, divisive policies, and failed leadership. Despite El-Rufai’s defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and his attacks on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ata assured that Tinubu’s government remains focused on delivering on its promises and will not be distracted by political theatrics. His tenure as the minister of the FCT under President Olusegun Obasanjo was marked by contentious policies and an abrasive leadership style. This trend continued throughout his political journey, from his days in the opposition during the formative years of the APC to his tenure as a two-term governor of Kaduna State. “It is, therefore, not surprising that in the present dispensation, while President Tinubu remains focused on tackling the multi-faceted challenges facing Nigeria, El-Rufai has chosen to embark on yet another round of political mischief,” Ata said in a statement issued by his media aide, Seyi Olorunsola. The minister further accused El-Rufai of presiding over a period of severe insecurity in Kaduna, stating that under his leadership, ethnic and sectarian violence escalated significantly. “Under his watch, Kaduna recorded some of the highest fatalities linked to communal conflicts and terrorist activities. Infamously, he once admitted to making payments to foreign militias, a statement that remains a dark stain on his record and raises questions about his role in fostering peace and stability,” Ata noted. He described El-Rufai’s leadership style as divisive, claiming that his policies alienated minority groups and worsened communal tensions in the state.

    HOW TINUBU COUNTERED EL-RUFAI’S COUP

HOW TINUBU COUNTERED EL-RUFAI’S COUP What many Nigerians may not know, is that President Bola Tinubu and former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, had parted ways long before the 2023 presidential election.Whatever political relationship that existed between two, hit the hard rocks shortly after Muhammadu Buhari emerged president in the 2015 presidential election. Watchers of the power circle were quick to observe, that Buhari openly displayed his fascination with Tinubu’s strategic moves that paved the way for his emergence as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Buhari acknowledged the fact that without Tinubu’s mastery of the game, there was no way he could have beaten heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Aminu Tambuwal who contested the APC ticket with him. From beating the presidential primary hurdles, to clinching the APC ticket and capping it with a resounding victory in the 2015 presidential election, Buhari more or less elevated Tinubu to the status of his political god. At his swearing-in ceremony on May 29, 2015, Buhari could hardly conceal his admiration for Tinubu. He kept pumping the hand of the former Lagos State governor in numerous hand shakes and gave him several pats in the back at every close encounter. It became obvious to the public that Buhari had found a benefactor and political godfather in Tinubu. What with his previous three failed attempts at the presidency in 2003, 2007 and 2011. However, the camaraderie was short lived. Along the line, Buhari started giving Tinubu the cold shoulder a few months into the first leg of his presidency. And for a man not given to much restraint, Buhari continued to drive a wedge between Tinubu and his presidency. It wasn’t long before the content of a leaked memo to Buhari, authored by El-Rufai, revealed that Tinubu’s contribution to Buhari’s emergence as president was being “exaggerated.” At that point, Tinubu got to understand why his initial chummy relationship with Buhari suddenly grew tepid. The thinly veiled rejection from the then president kept growing. The one-sided cold war became so pronounced that Tinubu’s wife, Remi, then a serving senator, was forced to voice her observation right on the floor of the Senate. She openly accused Buhari of ditching her husband after helping him to win the presidency. But Buhari’s unprovoked indignation towards his benefactor continued unabated. Credible sources within the ruling APC at the time, observed that Tinubu was not allowed to make input into Buhari’s cabinet picks and other strategic appointments. Right from his first tenure, a handful of power grabbers within and outside Buhari’s kitchen cabinet, were the ones running the government. They formed a cabal that ran rings around the stubbornly insular ex-president. Members of the cabal had very little electoral value. They were sufficiently disdainful of Tinubu. They used their domineering influence to keep the Lagos Boy far away from their Aso Villa captive. They created the false impression of holding the joker for Buhari’s re-election in 2019. They started treating Tinubu as an expendable commodity as they kept widening the growing chasm between the Daura born ex-Army General and his political benefactor. Then EI-Rufai came out in the open. He took upon himself the task of “demystifying” Tinubu by rallying some of the man’s political associates for “insurrection” against their leader. From his base in Kaduna, he became a regular visitor in Lagos, which is the nucleus of Tinubu’s political base in the Southwest. He spared no expense as he openly canvased an end to the era of political godfathers. It was during one of his numerous “missionary journeys” that he asked an incumbent Lagos governor: “When are you going to retire your godfather from politics?” And the then first term governor replied: “Second tenure.” And this was…
