JUNIOR PỌPE: POLICE RECOVER THREE MORE BODIES
The Anambra State Police Command has said that their marine unit has recovered the bodies of the three remaining victims of the tragic boat accident involving a movie cast that claimed the lives of a Nollywood star, John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope and other crew members.
One of the two boats that conveyed the actors including Junior Pope and other crew members to a film location in the Anambra West Local Government Area, was returning to Asaba, where it took off when the accident happened on Wednesday.
A statement issued by the Anambra State Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that six actors and one actress had been recovered and that two other victims of the incident rescued were unconscious and were handed over to the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria for conveyance to the hospital, while three others were still missing.
In a statement issued on Friday by the police spokesperson, the command said that two of the bodies were recovered on Thursday while the last body was washed in by the tide on Friday morning.
The statement said, “All the bodies have been deposited in a hospital mortuary in Asaba while the President of the Guild of Actors and Actresses has been notified of the recovery.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye has urged all water commuters to be safety conscious and avoid behaviour that may jeorpardise their safety and that of others while on transit on water.“He promised expedited investigation into the sad accident that claimed the lives of five actors. He also commended the Command’s Marine Unit and its Commander for dedication to duty.”
