I’M READY TO COLLABORATE WITH OBI TO RECOVER NIGERIA – BAUCHI GOVERNOR, BALA MOHAMMED

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has expressed readiness to work with the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, to provide good governance to Nigerians.

Mohammed stated this in Bauchi on Thursday when Obi paid him a ‘consultation visit’ at the state’s Presidential Lodge.

According to him, the visit which centred on how he and Mr Obi can work closely together to address poverty and criminality will transcend political, religious or tribal lines.

Mr Mohammed said, “We discussed state by state challenges and I feel highly appreciative of what he is doing as the leader of the opposition because whether we like it or not, he is the leader of the opposition now in Nigeria.

“I want to say at this level not to make some of those doubting Thomases and mischievous minds to pre-empt what we are doing, that I’m ready to work with Peter Obi.

“We will make sure we come together, close ranks, bring good governance to the country, give vibrant opposition with knowledge, timelines, visions in such a manner that we will rescue and recover our country.

“Our coming together is a message and the message is going to resonate because all our colleagues, the PDP governors are behind this kind of journey because it is a transcendental one. We are coming together to work together irrespective of party, region, religion or any other thing.’’

In his remarks, Mr Obi said he decided to visit Mr Mohammed to discuss Nigeria’s issues and consult him, being the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and a critical stakeholder in Nigeria’s politics today.

He stated, “It’s just a consultation and discussion meeting that will continue to go on as we talk about the future of this country. We have to discuss issues happening in the North.

“I have told the governor today that the North is a critical component if we are going to get it right in this country. There is poverty in Nigeria. We have to deal with the issue of poverty and until you solve poverty, then you can talk about criminality.”

Mr Obi added that the country needed to invest hugely in critical areas to pull people out of poverty so as to reduce criminality in society.

The closed-door meeting between the duo was for more than three hours before they addressed the press.

BUDGET RE-PRESENTION: RIVERS ASSEMBLY ADJOURNS SITTING INDEFINITELY The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, an ally of former Governor Nyesom Wike on Friday adjourned its legislative activities indefinitely, a move that raises political tension in the state. The decision to adjourn sine die (without a scheduled resumption date) comes just day(s) after Governor Siminalayi Fubara formally notified the Assembly of his intention to present the 2025 budget on Wednesday. The indefinite adjournment casts uncertainty over the budget presentation, fueling speculation about deepening political rifts within the state’s leadership. ABN TV reports that the latest development is part of the ongoing power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The state’s legislature has been a battleground for their loyalists, with the Assembly leadership firmly aligned with Wike. Political analysts suggest that the adjournment may be a strategic move to frustrate Fubara’s administration by delaying legislative approval of the budget. Others believe it signals a broader attempt to assert control over the state’s political landscape. Observers are now watching closely to see how Governor Fubara will respond, particularly whether he will explore alternative legal or political options to ensure the budget’s passage. Meanwhile, Rivers residents and stakeholders remain on edge, as the power tussle continues to shape governance in the oil-rich state.

EBIRA YOUTH LEADER BLAST SENATOR NATASHA, CALL HER ‘UNREPENTANT BLACKMAILER’

EBIRA YOUTH LEADERS BLAST SENATOR NATASHA, CALL HER “UNREPENTANT BLACKMAILER The last is yet to be heard in the sexual harassment leveled against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio by the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The allegation has in the last two weeks attracted reaction and counter reaction with over 100 women groups apologizing to the Senate President for the conduct of the Kogi lawmaker. This is as the former Akwa Ibom governor continues to receive solidarity from various groups and high profile individuals. The latest is coming from the constituents of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan who have not only passed a vote of no confidence on her but have branded her a serial blackmail with sexual harassment as her favourite card. In a statement on Wednesday, indigenes of Kogi Central under the aegis of Ebira Youth Leaders Forum (EYLF) said they are disgusted and disappointed that their representatives has refused to be a good ambassador of Ebira people, projecting good upbringing that reflects in the conduct of Ebira people. The group in the statement signed by its General Secretary, Dr. Adoza Dahiru wondered why the sexual allegation against the Senate President only emerged after she was removed from the Senate Committee on Local Content and later an internal rearrangement that saw her seat changed. They accused her of deliberately attempting to drag the reputation of Akpabio and the exalted office of the Senate President to the mud with nefarious intents. “The events panning out in the Senate in recent times, with our own representative at the centre stage is very disgraceful and generally casts we the cultured and mannered people of Ebira ethnic nationality in a bad light. “This is a woman who just through the intervention of the judiciary found herself in the Senate but instead of drawing an agenda rooted on effective representation of the people, she has found a trade in demeaning the revered office of the number three citizen of our dear country. “It is on record that her series of sexual harassment blackmail against top figures in the psst have all ended up unproven. A former presidential aide Reno Omokri, former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye, former governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello and several others are some of her victims of blackmail which were never proved. “We hereby pass a vote of no confidence on her for not only projecting us in a bad light but for performing extremely poorly as a representative of the people. “Apart from solar street lighting andestablishment of five Mini Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants in Ajaokuta Local Government, Kogi which we know to be an initiative of President Bola Tinubu in her constituency, no significant project is traceable to her. The Senate is not a place for those who only want play to gallery in front of the cameras”, the group said. The Ebira youth leaders said her conduct is primarily the reason women Senators both past and present are not standing with her. They urged her to face her suspension and use the opportunity to study Senate rule and stop scavenging for solutions where none exist, saying the people of Kogi Central will take a decision on her after the completion of her suspension.
