EBIRA YOUTH LEADERS BLAST SENATOR NATASHA, CALL HER “UNREPENTANT BLACKMAILER

The last is yet to be heard in the sexual harassment leveled against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio by the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The allegation has in the last two weeks attracted reaction and counter reaction with over 100 women groups apologizing to the Senate President for the conduct of the Kogi lawmaker. This is as the former Akwa Ibom governor continues to receive solidarity from various groups and high profile individuals.

The latest is coming from the constituents of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan who have not only passed a vote of no confidence on her but have branded her a serial blackmail with sexual harassment as her favourite card.

In a statement on Wednesday, indigenes of Kogi Central under the aegis of Ebira Youth Leaders Forum (EYLF) said they are disgusted and disappointed that their representatives has refused to be a good ambassador of Ebira people, projecting good upbringing that reflects in the conduct of Ebira people.

The group in the statement signed by its General Secretary, Dr. Adoza Dahiru wondered why the sexual allegation against the Senate President only emerged after she was removed from the Senate Committee on Local Content and later an internal rearrangement that saw her seat changed.

They accused her of deliberately attempting to drag the reputation of Akpabio and the exalted office of the Senate President to the mud with nefarious intents.

“The events panning out in the Senate in recent times, with our own representative at the centre stage is very disgraceful and generally casts we the cultured and mannered people of Ebira ethnic nationality in a bad light.

“This is a woman who just through the intervention of the judiciary found herself in the Senate but instead of drawing an agenda rooted on effective representation of the people, she has found a trade in demeaning the revered office of the number three citizen of our dear country.

“It is on record that her series of sexual harassment blackmail against top figures in the psst have all ended up unproven. A former presidential aide Reno Omokri, former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye, former governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello and several others are some of her victims of blackmail which were never proved.

“We hereby pass a vote of no confidence on her for not only projecting us in a bad light but for performing extremely poorly as a representative of the people.

“Apart from solar street lighting and
establishment of five Mini Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants in Ajaokuta Local Government, Kogi which we know to be an initiative of President Bola Tinubu in her constituency, no significant project is traceable to her. The Senate is not a place for those who only want play to gallery in front of the cameras”, the group said.

The Ebira youth leaders said her conduct is primarily the reason women Senators both past and present are not standing with her.

They urged her to face her suspension and use the opportunity to study Senate rule and stop scavenging for solutions where none exist, saying the people of Kogi Central will take a decision on her after the completion of her suspension.

KANO EMIRATE: APPEAL COURT STOPS SANUSI’S REINSTATEMENT The Court of Appeal in Abuja has halted the enforcement of its January 10 judgment, which upheld the Kano State Government’s decision to repeal the 2019 Emirate Council Law. The ruling of the court by implication implies fall short of affirming the reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano, which indicates that decision on his reinstatement has to wait for the Nigeria ‘s apex court, the Supreme Court’ s pronouncements. In his ruling Friday, the court also set aside the June 20 order of the Federal High Court in Kano, which nullified the Kano State Government’s actions under the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024, these actions included dissolving the five emirates created in 2019 and the reinstatement of Sanusi II as Emir. The Kano State Government been dissatisfied with the ruling and had taken the case to the Supreme Court and also sought an injunction from the Court of Appeal to stop the execution of the judgment. The three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Okon Abang, granted the request in two separate suits filed by Aminu Babba Dan (Sarkin Dawaki Babba) against the Kano State Government, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, the Inspector General of Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other security agencies. Babba Dan, in his application filed on February 6, 2025, sought an order stopping the enforcement of the appellate court’s January 10 judgment, while the case was still pending at the Supreme Court. His prays include that the trial court lacked jurisdiction, and that his fundamental rights were at risk, as well as that the ruling should not be enforced until the Supreme Court decides. He also argued that the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024, which dissolved the new emirates and reinstated Sanusi II, was unlawfully enacted by the Kano State House of Assembly and signed by the governor. Justice Abang, while delivering the judgment, stated that the court should maintain the prevailing status before the Federal High Court’s decision on June 13, 2024. The court held that since an appeal was already before the Supreme Court, it was necessary to preserve the case’s subject matter. The ruling then went ahead to restrain the Kano State Government and other respondents from enforcing the January 10 judgment and ordered that the situation remain unchanged until the Supreme Court’s final decision. The Court of Appeal’s January 10 judgment had previously overturned a ruling by the Federal High Court in Kano, which declared the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024 as null and void. The appellate court held that chieftain matters fall under the jurisdiction of state high courts, not federal courts, and with the case now before the Supreme Court, the Kano Emirate dispute remains unresolved. NIGERIAN STUDENTS IN U.S. FACE DANGER OF DEPORTATION

NIGERIAN STUDENT’S IN U.S. FACE DANGER OF DEPORTATION Nigerian nationals schooling in the United States may be deported if the President Donald Trump administration determines their stay is not in the best interest of the country. In 2024, the US saw a record rise in foreign students’ enrolment after other choice destinations like enforced biting visa restrictions to curb immigration. According to a US government report, Nigerians were among the highest enrollees. In the 2023/2024 academic year, Nigeria ranked seventh globally and first in Africa for international students in the US, with 20,029 Nigerian students enrolled, a 13.5% increase from the previous year. Speaking during an interview with Fox News recently, US Vice-President JD Vance said he expects deportation numbers to rise as the Trump-led administration ramps up efforts to remove illegal migrants from the country. Asked if it would affect foreign students who gained entry into the country legally, he replied in the affirmative. Vance said: “This is not fundamentally about free speech, and to me, yes, it’s about national security, but it’s also more importantly about who we as an American public decide gets to join our national community. “And if the secretary of state and the president decide this person shouldn’t be in America, and they have no legal right to stay here, it’s as simple as that. “I think we’ll certainly see some people who get deported on student visas if we determine that it’s not in the best interest of the United States to have them in our country. “I don’t know how high that number is going to be, but you’re going to see more people. “A lot of these foreign students, most of them, pay full freight. So sometimes what you have at elite universities like Columbia or Harvard, you have a well-qualified middle class American kid from the heartland who doesn’t get a spot in these universities because some Chinese oligarch, who is paying $100,000 a year, takes up that spot. “So it’s not just bad for national security, it’s bad for the American dream for a lot of kids who want to go to a nice university and can’t because their spot was taken by a foreign student. It’s certainly something we are looking at.”
