WHY GOV FUBARA INVITED ASSEMBLY MEMBERS

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara took a significant step by inviting the Amaewhule-led members of the State House of Assembly for a crucial meeting.

The invitation was issued following the Governor’s receipt of the Supreme Court’s certified true copy of a judgment, which directly impacted the political atmosphere in the state.

The letter detailing this invitation was sent by Dr. Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government, to Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, the Speaker of the House.

The primary reasons for this meeting were multifaceted.

First, it sought to provide a conducive environment for the lawmakers loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, to hold their sittings.

This move aimed at resolving ongoing issues within the Assembly, ensuring smooth operations, and promoting effective governance.

Additionally, one of the focal points of the meeting was to address the presentation of the 2025 budget, an important task for the state’s financial planning.

Another critical reason for the invitation was to discuss the payment of outstanding allowances and remuneration for the Assembly members.

This matter had been a source of tension and required urgent attention to maintain the legislators’ cooperation and morale.

The meeting, scheduled for March 10, 2025, at 10 am at the Government House in Port Harcourt, was seen as an opportunity for all parties to come together, set aside differences, and chart a course for a peaceful and productive future for Rivers State.

The Governor emphasized that the ultimate goal was to prioritize the best interests of the state and its citizens.

Reports had earlier suggested that the Executive Vice Chairman of Famfa Oil had allegedly lost her sight, with sources close to her medical team confirming concerns about her health. It was speculated that her vision deterioration began following a distressing near-air mishap, which reportedly triggered further complications. For weeks, Alakija’s absence from social media fueled speculation, leaving many worried about her well-being. Known for her strong commitment to spreading the gospel, her silence was unusual and deeply felt by her followers. However, on March 8, in celebration of International Women’s Day, Alakija broke her silence with an inspiring message. Instead of addressing the rumors, she encouraged women to embrace the #AccelerateAction theme and work towards breaking societal barriers. Her Message Read: “As we globally celebrate the strides achieved towards gender equity, it is evident that there is still so much more to do. Now, more than ever before is the time to move beyond words and to #AccelerateAction for women across the globe. It’s time to break many more glass ceilings, remove structural barriers, and ensure that opportunities are created for women where they don’t currently exist! NIGERIANS DEBATE SENATE MATTERS LIKE COMMENTATORS ARGUING MESSI, RONALD – AKPABIO

NIGERIANS DEBATE SENATE MATTERS LIKE COMMENTATORS ARGUING MESSI, RONALDO , SAYS AKPABIO Senate President Godswill Akpabio has criticised those commenting on the affairs of the upper legislative chamber, likening their arguments to football fans debating Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Speaking in Abuja on Friday while receiving a delegation of youth leaders from the Niger Delta region, Akpabio expressed concerns over what he described as “uninformed public commentary” on senate matters. His remarks followed the controversy surrounding the suspension of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Kogi central lawmaker. Akpabio said that the senate’s decision was in line with its standing rules and internal disciplinary processes. “You should try to go and know the facts before you start running commentaries on television,” Akpabio said. “If you have not studied the Bible or have nothing to do with Christianity, you cannot claim to know the Bible more than the Pope. In the same vein, if you are not an Imam, you cannot begin to quote the Quran. “But you see people who are not well-informed sitting down, just like they do as football commentators, saying, ‘Ronaldo should have come from the left to score’, or ‘If you were Messi, you would have kicked from the centre’. Then, they do commentaries on television. “But when it comes to matters of the hallowed chamber of the National Assembly, you cannot begin to quote what you have never seen. “When people are not well informed about the procedures yet begin to debate provisions they don’t understand, sometimes it worries me. “So we advise members of the public to desist from running commentaries on things that they do not know, misquoting the rules of the senate.” He said the senate has its own mechanism for resolving issues, adding that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s matter has already been settled in line with the rules. Jonathan Lokpobiri, president of the Ijaw Youth Council, who led the delegation, had earlier expressed concerns about developments in the Senate but assured Akpabio of the Niger Delta region’s support.
