WE REJECT OBASA IN TOTALITY – LAGOS LAWMAKERS

Thirty-six members of the Lagos State House of Assembly loyal to Mojisola Meranda on Thursday reaffirmed that the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker was final, declaring Meranda as the legitimate leader of the House.

The lawmakers convened at the Assembly garden, maintaining their stance based on their February 17 vote of confidence in Meranda, despite Obasa’s return.

Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, Stephen Ogundipe, condemned the ongoing situation and called for calm.

He said: “This is Lagos, the State House of Assembly. We’re shocked to see what’s happening here today.

“We expect our leaders, who earlier told us to remain calm, to come and address us and tell us where we went wrong or what really went wrong.

“We won’t take laws into our hands, but we belong to different constituencies and we have our mandates.

“Whatever is going to happen, the leadership should speak with us and not this charade we’re witnessing.

“We are humiliated by this action. I was stopped at the gate from entering the assembly chamber. This is an embarrassment, and it must stop.

“We are not against the leadership’s decisions, but they should call us and tell us instead of hearing rumours. They’re our leaders, we’ll still stand and obey their decisions.

“We reject Obasa in totality,” he declared.

The lawmakers also chorused, “We reject Obasa in totality.”

OBASA STORMS LAGOS ASSEMBLY, SAYS HE REMAINS THE SPEAKER Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has announced that he has resumed his position as the leader of the parliament, Obasa made the declaration on Thursday after arriving at the Assembly complex with police and State Security Service (SSS) personnel, marking his first return since his removal on January 13. “I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa stated. This development adds to the ongoing leadership crisis within the Assembly, as Obasa’s removal and the election of Mojisola Meranda as Speaker remain subjects of intense political contention. According to sources, Obasa arrived at the Assembly around 11:30 AM, accompanied by heavily armed police officers and civil defence personnel. The development has thrown the Assembly into disarray, especially as the incumbent Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, was reportedly absent from the scene. Although the House is currently on an indefinite recess, reports indicate that the doors to the Speaker’s office have been forcibly opened. The Inspector General of Police, IGP, had ordered the withdrawal of all security details assigned to Speaker Mojisola Meranda. The development, which comes amid a leadership tussle within the Assembly, has left the Speaker vulnerable to potential attacks. An aide to the Speaker,, confirmed that security personnel, including police officers and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), were withdrawn on Thursday morning without any replacement. “In the early hours of Thursday, we woke up to the startling news that all security details assigned to Madam Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, had been withdrawn. This includes the police and DSS officers, leaving her exposed to threats amid the ongoing speakership crisis,” the aide disclosed. The aide further appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as the state’s Chief Security Officer, to intervene urgently to prevent a potential breakdown of law and order. The crisis escalated further on Wednesday, when Olalekan Onafeko, the former and suspended Clerk of the House, attempted to resume duty at the Assembly complex. However, he was politely turned away by security personnel. Onafeko, who was removed alongside former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on January 13, allegedly arrived at the complex around 9 a.m., accompanied by his lawyer, two security personnel, and unidentified DSS operatives, in an attempt to reclaim his office. “He, the suspended clerk, was politely told by the lawyer of the State Assembly to leave the complex peacefully as the matter is already in court,” an eyewitness revealed. A viral video captured Assembly staff booing and jeering at Onafeko, chanting unfavorable slogans as he was escorted out of the premises. In response to the incident, the management of the Lagos State House of Assembly, through a statement signed by Chief Security Officer Kushoro Idowu, condemned the development. The crisis stems from the January 13 removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who was ousted by 32 out of 40 members of the Assembly. Following his removal, Mojisola Meranda was elected as the substantive Speaker. Despite interventions from President Bola Tinubu, the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Governor Sanwo-Olu, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), efforts to resolve the leadership dispute have so far yielded no positive results. As tensions continue to rise, stakeholders are calling for immediate action to restore order and ensure the safety of Speaker Meranda and the Assembly complex.

MASSOB SLAMS FEMI FANI-KAYODE OVER COMMENTS ON 1966 COUP

MASSOB SLAMS FANI-KAYODE OVER COMMENTS ON 1966 COUP The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has condemned former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode over his recent claim that the January 15, 1966, coup was orchestrated by the Igbo. MASSOB said it condemned Fani-Kayode’s “bold, empty claim and assertion that former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, did not say that the 1966 coup was Igbo-led.” This was made known in a statement on Wednesday by Comrade Uchenna Madu, Leader of MASSOB. Madu described the ex-Minister’s statement as a misleading falsehood orchestrated by immune and pathological hatred against Ndigbo. Fani-Kayode had claimed there is nowhere in Babangida’s book, A Journey in Service, where he stated that the coup of January 15, 1966, was not an Igbo coup. The former Minister insisted that those claiming it was not an Igbo coup are wrong, stating that they are either misguided and misinformed or being mischievous. However, Madu, on behalf of MASSOB, described Fani-Kayode as a wolf in sheep’s clothing and an acute hater of Ndigbo. “Was Femi Fani-Kayode among the coup plotters? Was he born during the 1966 military coup? “If it was an Igbo coup to serve an Igbo agenda, why did the coupists plan to install Chief Awolowo as a provisional president? “A few years ago, Femi Fani-Kayode garnered some attention and respect from Igbo youths during the period he associated with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in his current travails in the hands of the oppressive government of Nigeria. “We never knew that Femi Fani-Kayode was a wolf in sheep’s clothing, an acute hater of Ndigbo, who was sponsored to blackmail the highly respected and adored name of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu (Eze Igbo Gburugburu),” part of the statement read.
