CLAIM OF ARMY RESCUE OF THREE KIDNAPPED PASTORS FALSE, N2M RANSOM PAID

A shocking revelation has emerged contradicting the Kogi State Government’s claim that the Nigerian Army rescued three pastors abducted in the state.

According to a reliable source, the gunmen released the pastors after a ransom payment of N2 million

The pastors were abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers at Ejule in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident occurred shortly after they ministered at a crusade in the town.

The attackers reportedly ambushed the pastors along Ejule-Ofakaga-Anyigba Road around 11 pm on Monday, January 20, 2025, while returning from the crusade ground.

One of the abducted pastors, identified as Evangelist Gabriel Onaji, was a guest minister at the three-day crusade-themed “Ejule Gospel Crusade,” hosted by Evangelist Sunday Oguche, President of God’s Care Missions, Okpo.

Their vehicle was later found abandoned in Ofakaga village along the Ejule-Anyigba Road.

The kidnappers also demanded a N20 million ransom for their release, according to a resident who attended the crusade and is familiar with one of the abducted pastors.

A statement issued by Unubi Emmanuel, Press Secretary to the State Deputy Governor on Wednesday announced the rescue of these pastors and other victims by the Nigerian Army and other security operatives.

The government claimed that no ransom was paid to free the victims from the custody of their kidnappers.

Emmanuel wrote: “The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Comrade Joel Salifu has praised the gallantry of men of Nigeria Army and other sister agencies in the state for the safe release of the victims of kidnapping in the state.

“Comrade Joel made the statement when he received a call that sixteen victims of a recent kidnap incident, including three pastors in Ejule, Ofu Local Government Area regained their freedom, following the intervention of the security personnel.

“According to him, the men of the Nigeria army were alerted immediately the dastard act was carried out on Monday, prompting the security men to go after the abductors with a thorough search which lasted for two nights before they could locate them in a forest.

“After a two-hour gun duel, the kidnappers scampered for safety with varying degrees of injuries, leaving behind their victims.”

However, a source privy to the situation, disclosed that the Kogi State Government’s assertion that the army rescued the pastors was entirely false. Instead, the families of the abducted pastors were forced to pay a hefty ransom to secure their release.

“It was gathered that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N20 million for the release of the three men of God. The senior pastor was said to have engaged in a serious prayer session with his pastors.

“At the same time, the negotiation was ongoing with the kidnappers as the men of the Nigerian Army were also making relentless efforts in the search for the kidnapper’s hideout. Eventually, N2 million was paid to secure their release,” the source said.

A news platform based in the state, Holi Magik TV also disclosed that “the victims were released after a suitable negotiation of the ransom was arrived at by both parties”.

“It was gathered that the sum of approximately N2 million was paid for the three men of God,” the report added.

GOVERNOR LOCKS OUT COMMISSIONERS, WORKERS FROM OFFICES Benue State Governor Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia locked out hundreds of workers and some commissioners from the state secretariat on Wednesday, January 22. The governor, who regularly conducts unscheduled visits, berated workers at the secretariat for their lack of punctuality. Governor Alia’s convoy had arrived at the secretariat at around 10:35 am. Due to the convoy of the governor, workers and commissioners who arrived for work later were locked out. The governor then toured the facilities, expressing his dismay at the absence of several high-ranking officials. Speaking to the locked-out civil servants, Governor Alia said: “The work I do is not for me but for those who don’t know that I’m the governor and those who will see me and not even recognise me. I’m appealing to you because I have a quick way of getting your names and firing you as I have the powers to do so. But I am speaking to you as a priest and not as governor and telling you the dangers in what you are doing. “It is not about me. Who is government? All of you here are the government. Even in the family, somebody governs the home and there are rules. And in every government there are rules. I’m speaking to you because I do not want you to be doomed. “See what you can do to help, if not yourselves, those people you are caring for and those behind you because they are the ones to take the heat of the circle you have created.”

TRUMP PARDONS TWO POLICE OFFICERS CONVICTED IN MURDER OF BLACK MAN IN WASHINGTON

TRUMP PARDONS TWO POLICE OFFICERS CONVICTED IN MURDER OF BLACK MAN IN WASHINGTON Republican U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday pardoned, opens new tab two police officers in Washington who were convicted in the 2020 murder of a 20-year-old Black man named Karon Hylton-Brown, the White House said, In September 2024, Terence Sutton Jr was sentenced, to 66 months in prison while Andrew Zabavsky was sentenced to 48 months in prison over “an unauthorized police pursuit that ended in a collision on Oct. 23, 2020, that caused the death of Karon Hylton-Brown, 20, in Northwest Washington D.C.,” the Justice Department said last year. The officers remained free pending the outcomes of their appeals. The Metropolitan Police Department said Sutton, in his early 40s, and Zabavsky, in his mid-50s, were on “indefinite suspension without pay, pending our administration process.” Sutton was found guilty by a unanimous federal jury in late 2022, after a nine-week trial, of second-degree murder, conspiracy to obstruct, and obstruction of justice. The same jury found Zabavsky guilty of conspiracy to obstruct and obstruction of justice. The jury had found that Sutton caused Hylton-Brown’s death by driving a police vehicle in “conscious disregard” for an extreme risk of death or serious bodily injury to Hylton-Brown. It also found that Sutton and Zabavsky conspired to hide from officials the circumstances of the traffic crash leading to Hylton-Brown’s death. The DC Police Union had sought a pardon for the two officers. Sutton’s attorney, Kellen Dwyer, said in a statement cited by CNN that while he and his client were “confident that the D.C. Circuit would have reversed this conviction, we are thrilled that President Trump ended this prosecution once and for all.” Zabavsky’s attorney, Christopher Zampogna, also thanked Trump. Hylton-Brown’s mother, Karen Hylton, told CNN before the announcement that she was shocked and cried when she learned of the potential pardons. The incident happened months after the killing of George Floyd, a Black man who died after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for several minutes. That murder led to protests against police brutality and racial inequality in the U.S. and around the world. After taking office on Monday, Trump pardoned about 1,500 of his supporters who attacked the U.S. Capitol four years ago on Jan. 6, 2021. Among those pardoned were some who assaulted police officers. The Fraternal Order of Police, the largest police union in the U.S. that endorsed Trump in the 2024 election, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police said in a joint statement they were “deeply discouraged” by those pardons.
