IPOB DISOWNS SIMON EKPA, SAYS HE’S NOT ITS MEMBER

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has disowned Finland based pro-Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, who was arrested yesterday for allegedly sponsoring terrorism in the South East, Nigeria.
In a press release by IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, the group stated categorically that “for public records, Simon Ekpa has never been a member of IPOB led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu”.

Below is full details of IPOB release

SIMON EKPA IS NOT AN IPOB MEMBER AND MUST NOT BE ASSOCIATED WITH IPOB

The attention of the global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been drawn to the purported arrest and claim of being an IPOB member by the infamous Prime Minister of Biafra Government in Exile (BRGIE) named Simon Ekpa. For public records, Simon Ekpa has never been a member of IPOB led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently being detained illegally in the DSS solitary confinement by the Nigerian Government since almost four years.

Contrary to the disinformation from the BBC News report that Simon Ekpa is an IPOB leader. Simon Ekpa is not an IPOB member, let alone be a leader in IPOB. IPOB has some family units in Finland, and Simon Ekpa is not a registered member of any IPOB unit in Finland or any unit globally. Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu established IPOB as a peaceful movement to seek Biafra Independence via a supervised UN referendum.

IPOB is a peaceful global movement that has never taken to violence or arms struggle in two decades of our self-determination struggle. Even though the various murderous government regimes in Nigeria have provoked us. We have remained resolute and peaceful.

On the other hand, Simon Ekpa was seen by some innocent Biafrans as someone sympathetic to the Biafra course. Until they discovered that he was a destructive agent paid to infiltrate and destroy the IPOB peaceful movement for Biafra self-determination. He recruited violent criminals to destabilize the South East Region in 2021. He is a self acclaimed prime minister of a small group called Biafra Government in Exile (BGIE).

The infamous BGIE led by Simon Ekpa created a violent group that call themselves the Biafra Liberation Army. They have perpetuated various violent acts against the civilians in the Eastern Region in the name of Biafra agitation. IPOB family worldwide refused to accept that system to achieve Biafra freedom and sovereignty. His group and the Nigerian Army are responsible for many kidnappings, rapes, forceful disappearances, killings, and burning of homes in the South Eastern region. Undoubtedly, Simon Ekpa has claimed responsibility for the violent actions of his criminal gang.

The Simon Ekpa led group has no alliance or relationship with IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. He recruited his criminals who have been terrorizing the Biafran territory since 2021 after the kidnapp, extraordinary rendition, and illegal detaintion of the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria.

The Nigerian government and politicians whom Biafrans believe contracted Simon Ekpa has been tagging his group’s violent and terrorist activities on IPOB just to blackmail and demonize the genuine and peaceful Biafra self-determination struggle led by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

IPOB is by this press release calling on BBC News and Finnish Authorities to note that Simon Ekpa has no relationship with IPOB in Finland or any other unit globally. He should not be associated with IPOB because IPOB does not support violent agitation that he represents.

IPOB led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a peaceful movement that has adopted civil disobedience to press our demand for Biafra’s self-determination and referendum. Unlike Simon Ekpa, who recruits and funds criminals who carry out killings of civilians and government agents, destroyed many homes in Biafra territory. Therefore, no person or institution should link Simon Ekpa and his group to IPOB. We do not have any relationship whatsoever.

Simon Ekpa has been shielded from arrest and terrorism charges against innocent Biafran civilians by the Nigerian and the Finnish governments’ diplomatic maneuvering. However, for every crime, there is a day of reckoning. On the purported arrest of Simon Ekpa, all IPOB members, Biafrans and lovers of Biafra freedom should remain calm and focus on the ball which is the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from the illegal detention and the Biafra restoration project.

IPOB does not do violent agitation or violence against civilians. IPOB does not do violent agitation or violence against the Nigerian Security Forces or the sponsored infiltrator criminals represented by Simon Ekpa.

OHANAEZE CELEBRATES SIMON EKPA’S ARREST, SAYS IT’S HUGE RELIEF The apex Igbo sociocultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has described the arrest of Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed leader of the Biafran independence movement, as a huge relief for the Ndigbo. The organization said Ekpa’s arrest marked a significant milestone in the collective journey towards healing and reconciliation. A Finnish court had sent Ekpa to prison for spreading terrorist propaganda on social media. A district court of Päijät-Häme remanded him after the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested him alongside four other men over alleged terrorist offences. The Nigerian military, however, reacted to the report of his arrest, saying it was elated about the development. In a statement by a factional Secretary of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group noted that arrest and detention of Ekpa was expected to resolve the pervasive insecurity challenges that have beleaguered Southeastern Nigeria for far too long. Isiguzoro added that Ekpa’s intention to publicly declare a Sovereign Biafra Nation on December 2, 2024 was not only misguided but indicative of a reckless disregard for the profound consequences such a declaration would evoke. “His intentions could have sparked uncontrollable civil unrest and perhaps culminated in another Biafran War, a prospect that the Igbo people have conclusively rejected and remain unprepared to engage in. “The echoes of the previous conflict, which left indelible scars on our history, stand as a stark reminder of the devastation war brings. “Upon this crucial arrest, Ohanaeze Ndigbo categorically denounces the notion that individuals like Simon Ekpa possess the capability or legitimacy to summon the Igbo Nation into a conflict. “This organisation acknowledges Ekpa’s disturbing record over the last three years, wherein he has systematically wreaked havoc upon the very fabric of our society and economy, implementing his illegitimate Monday Sit-At-Home directive with the aid of armed men, who have terrorised our communities. “The financial toll from these activities is staggering, amounting to a loss of over 22 trillion naira in investment opportunities, thereby stifling the economic viability of our region.” Ohanaeze said it was compelled to express its longstanding suspicions regarding the Finnish government’s inaction regarding Simon Ekpa’s activities over the past three years. “As a Finnish citizen, he exploited the freedoms offered within that society to orchestrate broadcasts that incited violence and animosity against the very nation in which he resides. “It is a matter of profound concern for all of us that mercenaries, veiled as agitators, infringe upon our quest for peace while undermining our autonomy,” Ohanaeze said. It stressed that the Ndigbo sought a restructured Nigeria that would foster peace, dialogue, and development, rather than retracing steps towards conflict. Ekpa Sent to Prison over Terrorism Charges A Finnish court has sent separatist agitator, Simon Ekpa, to prison for spreading terrorist propaganda on social media. A district court of Päijät-Häme remanded him after the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested him alongside four other men over alleged terrorist offences. The self-declared Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in exile was said to have committed the crime in 2021 in Lahti municipality. According to a local report, the Central Criminal Police in Finland confirmed the arrest in a statement on its website on Thursday. The police said the main suspect was arrested “on suspicion of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent”, while “four other persons are suspected of financing the aforementioned activity. All five suspects of the crime have been arrested during the beginning of the week. “International cooperation has been carried out during the preliminary investigation. Claims will be heard in Päijät-Häme district court today, November 21,″ the statement added. There had been calls for the arrest of the separatist following his alleged involvement in the Sit-At-Home that has…

SIMON EKPA WILL BE EXTRADITED TO NIGERIA – DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS

SIMON EKPA WILL BE EXTRADITED TO NIGERIA – DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS The Nigerian Defence Headquarters, Abuja, has stated that Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed prime minister of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) will be extradited to the country to face charges against him. Speaking on the arrest of Ekpa in a short press statement made available to SaharaReporters, the Director of Defence Information, Brig Gen Tukur Gusau, said the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Chris Musa, was pleased with Ekpa’s trial. Gusau wrote: “CDS is happy with his arrest in Finland, with the hope this will be a step towards his extradition to Nigeria so that he will face justice.” Recall that the Finland district court in Lahti had ordered the remand of Simon Ekpa on probable cause for public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent in Nigeria. Ekpa was accused of using social media platforms to spread separatist propaganda linked to IPOB, a group advocating for the secession of southeastern Nigeria. The court alleged that the offences dated back to August 23, 2021. Finland authorities have also investigated Ekpa in the past for alleged financial crimes, including the collection of funds through questionable means. The head of the investigation, crime commissioner Otto Hiltunen of the Central Criminal Police, stated, “The police suspect that the man has promoted his efforts from Finland with means that have led to violence against civilians and authorities as well as other crimes in the region of South-Eastern Nigeria. The man has carried out this activity, among other things, on his social media channels.” However, the remaining four suspects, accused of financing terrorism, are believed to have committed the crime in August 2022, also in Lahti. These individuals, who are of foreign background, were born in the 1960s and 1970s. Helsingin Sanomat (HS) reports that five suspects were arrested during the first week of the investigation, with police highlighting international cooperation during the preliminary phase. It was previously reported that authorities suspect Simon Ekpa of being involved in the crime of collecting money unlawfully. In February 2023, Ekpa was arrested in a private apartment in Lahti. Ekpa was later released the same evening after being questioned. At the time, police also disclosed that they had received multiple reports about Ekpa’s activities on social media. This prompted an investigation to determine whether he could be linked to other crimes. Simon Ekpa is known in Finland as a local politician affiliated with the National Coalition Party. He has served as a deputy councillor and represented the party on the Lahti region’s public transport board. Meanwhile, from his home in Lahti, he has used social media to call for election boycotts and support for Biafra’s independence efforts.
