PETER OBI CONDEMNS FATAL SHOOTING OF SUPERSPORTS CREW, SAYS KILLINGS, KIDNAPPINGS HAVE BECOME WORSE

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2024 election, Peter Obi, has condemned the killing of some crew members of Supersports TV in a tragic ambush along the Ihiala-Orlu Road, Anambra State.
Naija News reports that a SuperSports crew member and a police officer were fatally shot by unknown gunmen while on their way to cover the Super Eagles 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya.

The victims were ambushed on the Ihiala-Orlu Road in Anambra State, on Tuesday, 8th October 2024, while travelling to cover Nigeria vs Libya 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which ended in a 1-0 win for the Super Eagles on Friday, October 11.

The bandits’ attack on the bus carrying the SuperSport crew members and security personnel resulted in the loss of a cameraman, a police officer, and the bus driver.

Reacting in a post on his X handle on Sunday, Peter Obi stated that kidnappings and killings in Nigeria have continued unabated and is getting worse by the day.

According to the former Anambra State Governor, Nigerians are gradually losing count of the people who have lost their lives to insecurity.

He wrote: “The never-ending incidents of killings, kidnappings and other violent crimes across the country have continued to be of concern to many. The situation has continued unabated and is worse by the day.

“Non-state actors have continued to inflict pain and sorrow on families whose loved ones are often kidnapped and sometimes killed in gruesome manners.

“In particular, I condemn, in totality, the unfortunate killing of some crew members of Supersports TV, who were attacked in a tragic ambush along the Ihiala-Orlu Road, Anambra State, a few days ago.

“These media practitioners were on their way to Uyo to perform official duty for their medium and, indeed, the nation when the tragic incident happened, resulting in their death and the kidnap of others.

“Two days ago, a few persons were also reportedly killed while some others were injured in a terror attack carried out by criminals in the Agatu local government area of Benue state.

“These violent attacks, many of which go unreported, have now continued to define our daily existence in our once-secured nation.

“We are gradually losing count of the people who have lost their lives to insecurity in our nation.

“How much longer do we allow our people to die before we decide enough is enough?

“I condole with the families who have lost dear ones to these recent attacks while praying for eternal rest on the dead and quick recovery for the injured.

“We are all in this together as a nation and will continue to demand for the security of lives and property of every Nigerian.”

NIGERIAN ARMY TO SANCTION SOLDIERS FOR IMPROPER COURTESIES BY GREETING ‘MORNING SIR’, RANKADEDE, IGWE’, ‘KABIYESI’

NIGERIAN ARMY TO SANCTION SOLDIERS FOR IMPROPER COURTESIES BY SAYING “MORNING SIR’, ‘MORNING DADDY, ‘GODFATHER’ RANKADADE’, IGWE’ OR ‘KABIYESI The Nigerian Army has warned its personnel to adhere strictly to the correct form of paying military compliments. The Chief of Army staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, gave the directive in an internal memo. In the memo signed on behalf of Oluyede by Major General E.E. Bassey, officers and soldiers caught involving in any alien form of paying compliments will be punished appropriately. It read, “The NA and indeed, all armies of the world are known and judged by their professional standards. Any army that does not possess professional attributes such as discipline, loyalty, expertise, morale, etc., cannot be regarded as a professional army in the comity of world armies. “One of the many ways of attaining professionalism is the observance of core ethical values and tenets. The peculiar nature of the military profession therefore makes it imperative that certain ethical conducts are adhered to strictly as a matter of course and duty. “The essence is to ensure that no one is left in doubt as to how to conduct himself at any point in time so as to achieve uniform conduct by all. “Paying of compliments is perhaps the oldest and most recognized attribute and core value of any professional army, including the NA. It is an expression of reciprocal loyalty between a superior and subordinate. “It is normally initiated by the subordinate and demands an immediate response from the superior. All officers and soldiers are required to pay the normal military compliments to their superiors in rank who are authorized to receive such compliments, whether riding on horseback or cycle, in a private or official vehicle or making a phone call. It is the officer’s duty to smartly return a salute with the correct hand and without a cigarette or pipe in the mouth. “This Headquarters however observes with dismay the bastardisation of this core value by both officers and soldiers of the NA. What is more prevalent now is that officers and soldiers have imbibed the culture of saying “Morning Sir’ even when it is noon or night, ‘Morning Daddy’, ‘Godfather’. ‘Rankadade’, ‘Igwe’ or ‘Kabiyesi”, standing at attention with open hands at the sides, etc. “These practices are not only alien but tend to portray the NA as an organization without professional or ethical standards. “Superiors are not traditional rulers and should not be so addressed. This unwholesome and alien form of paying compliment has not gone unnoticed even by officers of other national contingents in Peace Support Operations Foreign officers have even accosted NA senior officers to confirm if the time of the day does not matter when own personnel pay compliments “Henceforth, all officers and soldiers are to adhere strictly to the correct form of paying compliments in the NA. Any contrary or alien form of paying such compliments must not be tolerated and should be sanctioned appropriately.” “Commanders at all levels are therefore reminded of their command responsibilities of ensuring that these ethics and practices are strictly adhered to. Please disseminate to all personnel under command,” it added.
