SWEAR WITH QURAN YOU’VE NO CONNECTION WITH BANDITS – MINISTER CHALLENGES GOVERNOR

The Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, on Tuesday challenged the Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal to swear an oath with the Quran that he has no hands in banditry affecting the state.

Matawalle gave the charge while rejecting the governor’s claim which linked him to banditry in the state.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily, the minister recalled how he swore using the Quran that he had no connection with banditry in the state.

Lawal had charged the minister to address the allegations of him sponsoring banditry and money laundering during his tenure as governor.

Reacting, Matawalle said: “Let me remind you when I was a governor, I was the only governor that swore by the Holy Quran that I have no hand or connections with banditry or I am not happy with what is happening. I swore that if I was happy or part of it, God should not give me one second.

“I challenged all the politicians that time including Dauda, but none of them could take the oath. But I took it because I know my mind, I know I have a clean heart. And not only that, including all my councillors, chairmen, and commissioners, I will not give you an appointment, you have to take the oath.

“And up till tomorrow, I am challenging these people to take the oath that I have taken.

“They are part of the banditry, if not, let them take the oath with the holy Quran openly with all the Imams in Zamfara State. And since that time none of them have taken this oath.”

WIKE CANNOT SURVIVE WHERE THERE Is PEACE – ODILI S EX-COMMISSIONER ERIC BRIGGS A former Commissioner for Works and later Water Resources during Peter Odili’s administration in Rivers State, David Briggs, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of thriving in conflict and creating crises to maintain political relevance.Briggs, who now serves as the Chairman of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, made the allegations while addressing journalists on Saturday in Port Harcourt, the state capital. He dismissed Wike’s recent claims of reviving Odili’s political career, crediting the former governor with Wike’s rise in politics. Briggs asserted that Wike’s second tenure as Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area was made possible by Odili’s intervention. He explained that Odili had reinstated Wike’s name on the nomination list, paving the way for his political advancement. “The public should disregard Wike’s comments about Dr. Odili,” Briggs said, describing Wike as a person who “cannot and will not survive where there is peace.” Briggs accused Wike of deliberately inciting crises across Rivers State to maintain his influence, citing the recent lull in political tensions after a court ruling restored federal allocations to the state government. “Since the court judgement concerning the release of federal allocation to the state government, Rivers State has been enjoying peace. Wike, however, created problems so that he will remain the beneficiary,” Briggs alleged. He also claimed Wike was behind ongoing political tensions in several local government areas to maintain control. Briggs further recalled how Wike’s political success, including his governorship bid, was facilitated by Odili and former First Lady Patience Jonathan. He referenced a viral video showing Wike being introduced to Odili by Patience Jonathan for political endorsement. “Wike’s comments are insulting to Odili and the people of Rivers State. Dr. Odili played a significant role in building the state’s political structure and in Wike’s political rise,” Briggs said. Briggs expressed disappointment that President Bola Tinubu had not called Wike to order, warning that Rivers people would no longer tolerate Wike’s alleged excesses. “He should apologize to the people of Rivers State for his actions, or he risks facing further revelations about his conduct,” Briggs warned.

GOV ALIA, EX-GOV ORTOM EXCHANGE WORDS AT SGF’S THANKSGIVING SERVICE

GOV ALIA, EX-GOV ORTOM EXCHANGE WORDS AT SGF’S THANKSGIVING SERVICE Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State and his predecessor, Chief Samuel Ortom, exchanged words over the weekend regarding a thanksgiving event held in Agidi, Konshisha Local Government Area, to honour the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume. The event, also organised to celebrate the 50th birthday of Dr. Matthias Byuan, an Executive Director at the Federal Housing Authority, was attended by prominent figures, including Chief Ortom. However, Governor Alia’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, in statement about the event, accused Ortom of poor leadership during his tenure from 2015 to 2023. The statement criticised Ortom’s administration for alleged financial mismanagement, unpaid salaries, and stalled infrastructure projects. It also accused Ortom of using divisive rhetoric and signing unproductive agreements during his governorship. But in response, Terver Akase, a spokesperson for Chief Ortom, dismissed the allegations as unprovoked attacks. Akase argued that Ortom’s attendance at the thanksgiving should not incite political controversy and called on Governor Alia to focus on governance, contending that pressing issues, such as insecurity and community development, are areas in need of urgent attention. Ortom’s camp further criticised the Alia administration for receiving higher federal allocations without matching the expectations of citizens in addressing security and developmental challenges, urging the governor to prioritise the concerns of Benue residents rather than target political opponents.
