OBEY COURT ORDER REINSTATING ME AS DEPUTY GOVERNOR – SHAIBU TO OBASEKI

The outgoing Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has been told to take the path of honour and obey the subsisting court judgement reinstating his estranged deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu as the duly elected Deputy Governor of Edo State.

Shaibu made the call in a statement issued by his media team on Tuesday following the decision of the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss the application of stay of execution brought before it by the Edo State government and the Edo State House of Assembly against his reinstatement.

Describing the decision of the court presided over by Justice James Omotosho as a “resounding affirmation of the judiciary’s commitment to upholding justice, protecting citizens’ rights, and defending democracy”, Shaibu said Obaseki must now honour this latest ruling.

“It is time to put the interests of Edo State above personal agendas and respect the rule of law. The court has consistently held that Comrade Shaibu’s impeachment was illegal, unconstitutional, and void, violating sections 188 and 35 of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended),” Shaibu said.

Press Statement:

Re: Federal High Court, Abuja Reaffirms Reinstatement of Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu as Edo State Deputy Governor

We, the Hon. Philip Shaibu (HPS) Media Team, warmly welcome the landmark judgment delivered today by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, reaffirming the reinstatement of our principal, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, as the duly elected Deputy Governor of Edo State.

A Victory for Democracy and the Rule of Law

Today’s judgment is a resounding affirmation of the judiciary’s commitment to upholding justice, protecting citizens’ rights, and defending democracy. Justice James Omotosho’s courageous decision to dismiss the application of stay of execution brought by Governor Godwin Obaseki and the state House of Assembly is a testament to the court’s independence and integrity.

A Call to Obey the Court Order

We urge Governor Obaseki to take the path of honour and obey this latest ruling. It is time to put the interests of Edo State above personal agendas and respect the rule of law. The court has consistently held that Comrade Shaibu’s impeachment was illegal, unconstitutional, and void, violating sections 188 and 35 of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended).

Immediate Actions Required

Governor Obaseki must:

  1. Obey the Court Order: Restore Comrade Shaibu’s salaries and allowances as Deputy Governor.
  2. Respect the Office of the Deputy Governor: Refrain from attacking the institution and stopping Shaibu from performing his duties.
  3. Pay the Awarded Fine: Promptly pay the N200,000 fine awarded against each appellant for wasting the court’s time.

Commendation and Gratitude

We commend:

  1. Justice James Omotosho for his courageous judgment.
  2. The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for restoring Comrade Shaibu’s security details since July as directed by the court.
  3. All lovers of democracy for standing tall with Comrade Shaibu.

Conclusion

Today’s judgment is a victory for democracy, and we celebrate this triumph with Comrade Shaibu and the good people of Edo State. We remain committed to upholding the principles of justice, equity, and fairness.

Signed:

SENATOR NATASHA AKPOTI REPORTS HER SUSPENSION TO UN INTER-PARLIAMENTARY UNION It appears the controversy over the allegations by Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill and her suspension from the Red Chamber may not be getting off the news anytime soon. This is because the suspended Kogi Senator on Tuesday took her case to a global stage. At the Women in Parliament Session held at the Inter-Parliamentary Union Meeting (IPU) at the United Nations in New York, Senator Natasha is seeking justice and the intervention of global democratic institutions. The lawmaker is asking for justice over what she describes as injustice meted on her by according to her, “unlawful suspension” from the senate After her speech, she expressed worry about her security. The Kogi Central lawmaker claimed there were indications that she may be held against her will in New York for speaking up on the issue at the global event by “the powers that be” from Nigeria. The Senate suspended the Kogi lawmaker last week, accusing her of violating its rules days after she submitted a petition against Senate President Akpabio.

FG BEHIND CRISES IN PDP, LP, NNPP – EL-RUFAI

FG BEHIND CRISES IN PDP, LP, NNPP – EL-RUFAI The Presidency and Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Tuesday clashed again over allegation that the Federal Government is behind the internal crises and litany of litigations rocking the opposition parties in the country. El-Rufai made the claim when he visited the headquarters of the Social Democratic Party in Abuja. A video of his meeting with the party leadership has since gone viral on social media platforms. The embattled former governor also vented his frustration at the confusion and inactivity of the opposition camp. He said, “The crisis they are facing in the Labour Party is contrived and funded by the government of the day. Everyone knows it. “Jumping from one court to the other is all designed to distract the party leadership from focusing on their core functions. “The same thing is happening in the PDP, even the NNPP has been targeted for destruction. There are people who have been resourced to go and cause problems in the NNPP. “The last thing I read about the NNPP was that one faction of the party has expelled Kwankwaso and the sitting governor. “When you see things like that, you will know it is a contrived crisis. Which party sacks a sitting governor? And that is the only governor they have. I cannot mention names because I don’t have the details.” El-Rufai, earlier on Monday, announced his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress to the opposition SDP, vowing to mobilise against the APC government in 2027. He highlighted his previous efforts to address internal issues privately and publicly, which he felt were ignored, leading to his decision to seek an alternative platform that aligns with his values. The erstwhile APC chieftain also confirmed that he had submitted his resignation letter to the ruling party, saying that he consulted with his mentors, colleagues and supporters before joining the SDP in preparation for the 2027 general election. Presidency slams El-Rufai Reacting to his fresh allegation on Tuesday, the Presidency knocked El-Rufai, saying it was right to believe he jumped ship because of his inordinate ambition. In an exclusive phone interview, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communications, Daniel Bwala, expressed concerns that the new SDP convert was doing a bad job if his latest ‘gaslighting’ was to unsettle the ruling APC government. He said, “First, I am not aware and don’t know anything about that. Is he also saying that the Federal Government is also sponsoring a crisis in the SDP that he went to? His journey to the SDP, in summary, is dead on arrival. “In the coming days or weeks, for you members of the press, they will give you enough material to be reported. “Once the party is over, they will now sit and start fighting each other. They will start fighting over who becomes the candidates or representatives and start disagreeing with one another. “So they are enjoying the first two weeks when the media will give them attention. Inordinate ambition is when people think it is only through them that change can come. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, by God’s grace, will serve two terms and after he finishes, he will give it to a new generation of younger people. We have already moved past this political recycling.” LP denies allegation When quizzed, the leadership of the LP denied knowledge of El-Rufai’s allegation. In an interview, the National Publicity Secretary of LP, Obiora Ifoh, wondered why the former minister was just raising the alarm. He said, “If the APC has a hand in an internal crisis in a political party, we in the Labour Party are not aware of it. “We also think El-Rufai is speaking from both sides of the…
