NANS SET TO SHUT DOWN NIGERIA, SEPT 15 OVER FUEL PRICE HIKE
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has insisted on going ahead with the planned nationwide protest against the increase in petrol price and the economic hardship being faced by Nigerians.
Henry Okunomo, the NANS Senate President disclosed this in a statement l on Monday.
Okunomo insisted that the students’ body remained undaunted and would hit the streets of some major cities on September 15 to demonstrate against bad governance, hardship and hunger.
He warned Nigerians to be wary of some non-students masquerading themselves as NANS leaders who earlier called for the cancelation of the nationwide protest and the shutdown of the economic system.
The statement read, “The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) issues this unequivocal declaration to the Federal Government of Nigeria: reduce the fuel price forthwith, or face the wrath of Nigerian students in a nationwide protest of unprecedented magnitude on September 15th.
“To all tertiary institutions across the country, we direct you to intensify mobilization efforts, as the clock ticks closer to the appointed day. We urge all students to remain steadfast and unwavering in their commitment to this just cause.
“Meanwhile, we warn Nigerians and Nigerian students to be vigilant and disregard any spurious press conferences convened by faceless individuals and political ne’er-do-wells masquerading as NANS executives.
“These impostors are desperate to undermine our collective resolve and discredit our struggle for a better future.
“Let it be clear: we have taken our decision, and nothing short of a significant reduction in fuel price will make us reconsider. The Federal Government’s inaction has brought untold suffering upon the masses, and we will not stand idly by.
“We reiterate our demands: – Immediate reduction in fuel price – Tangible efforts to address the economic hardship faced by Nigerian students and the general populace
“Failure to comply will result in a nationwide protest of unprecedented proportions on September 15th. We will not be swayed by empty promises, half-measures, or political gimmicks. To the Federal Government, we say: the time for action is now. Listen to the voices of Nigerian students, and act accordingly.
“September 15th is a date etched in history, and we will not relent. No going back, no surrender. We will fight for our rights, and we will emerge victorious.”
