PDP GOVERNORS DUMP WIKE, DECLARE FULL SUPPORT FOR FUBARA

The Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared their full support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State amid his ongoing dispute with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

This renewed show of support follows a contentious party congress in which Governor Fubara was excluded from participation.

The PDP Governors have called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to revisit the proceedings of the congress and ensure that Governor Fubara is granted his rightful place within the party’s leadership structure.

These decisions were part of the resolutions made during the PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) meeting held in Jalingo, Taraba State, on Friday. The forum addressed significant intra-party issues as well as governance challenges that impact their states and have national implications.

A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting stated: “The Forum notes the political impasse in Rivers State, where court judgments are being used to determine the outcome of the party congresses. The PDP Governors’ Forum stands with the Governor of Rivers State and will engage the NWC to revisit the congress to correct this anomaly and allow His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, to assume his rightful leadership position in the state.”

The opposition governors also assessed preparations for the upcoming Edo State governorship election next month, criticizing President Bola Tinubu for allegedly attempting to manipulate the process in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The communiqué added: “Regarding the upcoming governorship election in Edo State, we condemn the President’s statements aimed at compromising the election in favor of his party, as well as the systematic intimidation of PDP supporters by the Nigeria Police. We call on the Inspector General of Police to bring his officers to order.”

The PDP governors expressed concern over the federal government’s reliance on blackmail instead of reviewing macroeconomic and social policies to make them more humane. They urged President Tinubu to “demonstrate statesmanship by restraining his officials from blame games that portray the sub-nationals negatively, citing piecemeal interventions that cannot solve the larger problems.”

The PDP governors reaffirmed their commitment to standing with the suffering Nigerian masses and taking all legitimate steps to alleviate their plight.

They also expressed apprehension over the federal government’s “refusal” to distinguish between federal revenue and federation revenue, which should be distributed according to established laws. They called on the government to adhere to Section 162 of the Constitution and to separate the roles of the Accountant General of the Federation from those of the Accountant General of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“We call on the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General of the Federation to be more transparent in obeying the law, particularly Section 162 (1), (2), and (3). We also call on the Accountant General of the Federation to stop acting as the Accountant General of the Federal Government and to perform her role in line with the Constitution. Therefore, we call for the separation of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation from that of the Accountant General of the Federal Government,” the communiqué stated.

SUPREME COURT GIVES FINAL VERDICT ON AUTHENTIC APGA NATIONAL CHAIRMAN The Supreme Court of Nigeria has upheld the leadership of Sylvester (Sly) Ezeokenwa as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). The judgment, delivered on Wednesday, also imposed a ₦20 million fine against Edozie Njoku for filing a frivolous suit at the FCT High Court in Bwari. The decision comes shortly after the Federal High Court in Abuja restrained Njoku from presenting himself as the party’s chairman. Justice James Omotosho ruled that there was no valid court order, including any from the Supreme Court, recognizing Njoku’s leadership. The leadership tussle in APGA has been a long-standing issue. Njoku’s faction had earlier been listed on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) website, replacing Ezeokenwa and his executive officers. APGA and Ezeokenwa filed a suit challenging this decision, arguing that Njoku’s claim lacked legal backing. The Supreme Court’s decision resolves a major controversy within APGA, restoring stability to the party’s leadership. The apex court also directed INEC to restore the names of Ezeokenwa and his team as the rightful national executive officers of APGA.

AHEAD OF 2027, ATIKU, OBI MULL NEW POLITICAL PARTY

AHEAD OF 2027, ATIKU, OBI MULL NEW POLITICAL PARTY. The presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, are in talks to adopt a new political party ahead of the 2027 polls. Sources reveal that Abubakar and Obi met recently, where they discussed plans to adopt a new political party in preparation for the 2027 elections. Both men will meet again in Yola, Adamawa State, this Saturday, November 30, where the former Anambra governor will be the keynote speaker at a ceremony in honour of the former vice president’s 78th birthday. A spokesperson confirmed that the option of a merger remains on the table but did not provide specific details. Since their loss to President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election, Atiku and Obi have been having conversations on an alliance and the Founder’s Day which Obi would attend Saturday at American the University of Nigeria (AUN) owned by Abubakar, was organised to show that the friendship between both men remains strong. The talk of an alliance or merger between both men is also hinged on the fact that the PDP has been in a prolonged crisis from 2023 till date and the current national chairman of the party, Umar Damagum, is a loyalist of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, who has staunchly opposed Abubakar’s presidential ambition and who openly supported Tinubu in the 2023 election. The situation in the Labour Party is no better as the national chairman, Julius Abure, has fallen out with Obi. The report says that with election season expected to commence in just 13 months, discussions between Obi and Atiku are said to have entered an advanced stage, and former governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State is said to be part of the discussions.
