PRESIDENCY FAULTS KWANKWASO, SAYS NO PLAN TO DECLARE STATE OF EMERGENCY IN KANO

The Presidency has denied the claims put forth by the National Leader of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, regarding an alleged plan to declare a state of emergency in Kano State.

The Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, called these allegations baseless and labeled them as “mere rumors.”

Following Kwankwaso’s accusations of bias in the Kano Emir tussle, the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government’s alleged plot to impose a state of emergency has sparked controversy.

In response to these serious allegations, Bayo Onanuga stated that there are no circumstances that would warrant declaring a state of emergency in Kano State.

The Presidency emphasized that such an extreme measure cannot be taken without the involvement of the National Assembly and that there are no plans to do so.

Additionally, the Commissioner of Police in Kano, Ussain Gumel, refuted claims of bias in the emirate crisis, affirming that the police force’s mandate is to protect lives and property.

Gumel mentioned that they had a duty to protect both emirs and that the police had remained neutral in the matter.

He also indicated that the police had received multiple court orders on the emirate tussle, and these had been forwarded to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice for review and directives.Gumel urged the public to be patient and calm as they await the outcome from the relevant authorities.
