MY N14M MONTHLY EARNING NOT ENOUGH – SENATOR ORJI UZOR KALU Former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, has said that he earns 14 million monthly as a senator, but the money is not enough to take care of his overhead and other costs. Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, stated this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Thursday. He said that the money was not enough to cover his expenses. Kalu argued that most senators were doing well for their constituents, saying he would never fail his people. “I am doing my best as a legislator for my constituency. I will never fail in my duty and I am sure most senators are doing their duties in their constituencies. I can never fail in Abia North Senatorial District. “I earn N14 million in a month encompassing my salary, overhead and workers’ salaries. Let me be honest with you, do you know from this money I have to buy fuel to travel to my constituency? It’s not enough. “When I was a governor, I voted for one term of six years. Remember Obasanjo said I was after him. That was the beginning of our quarrel. I went for one term of six years because of the cost of election, because of the cost of managing the economy. As a governor or a president, their eyes are on re-election. They are not even thinking about what people will gain, what people will do. They are only looking for reelection. The only way to solve this problem is to do a six-year one term. “It will go a long way in boosting their performance because the people think they need to make money for re-election in my opinion.”

YOUR REFORMS NOT WORKING, BAUCHI GOVERNOR TELLS TINUBU

YOUR REFORMS NOT WORKING – BAUCHI GOVERNOR TELLS TINUBU Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has called on the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to review its current monetary and fiscal policies, stating that they are not working effectively. The governor made this call at the launch of the Nigeria Development Update in Abuja on Thursday. Mohammed urged the government to avoid being dogmatic in its approach, emphasizing the urgent need for change due to the growing hardship in the country. He highlighted the plight of ordinary Nigerians, warning that hunger and economic hardship have created a volatile situation. He revealed that even people in his position are facing the threat of being lynched by frustrated citizens. Mohammed also called on the federal government to develop more effective economic policies, stressing that the funds currently being received are insufficient to address the widespread hunger. “When the reforms started, the sub-nationals supported the President. But now, the macroeconomic policies causing inflation need to be reconsidered. There is hunger, people are suffering, and Nigerians are not benefitting from these reforms. “What are you doing to reduce hunger? We must help the people cope. “The purchasing power of the people has drastically diminished. “My brother Cardoso (CBN governor), these policies are not working. They need to be reviewed. Let’s not resort to blackmail,” the governor said.
