NJC DENIES PROMOTION FOR JUSTICE INYANG EKWO, TWO OTHERS

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has taken disciplinary action against three judges, barring them from elevation to higher benches for two to three years due to various offenses.

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court was admonished for abusing discretionary power by wrongly granting an ex parte order in a specific case, leading to a two-year bar from elevation.

Justice GB Brikins-Okolosi of Delta State High Court received a warning for failing to deliver judgment within the stipulated period in a case, resulting in a three-year bar from elevation.

Additionally, Justice Amina Shehu of Yobe State High Court was cautioned for issuing a writ of possession without any subsisting judgment, warranting a three-year bar from elevation.

The NJC, chaired by Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, made these decisions during its 105th Meeting on May 15 and 16, 2024.

The NJC also addressed various complaints against judges, dismissing some for lack of merit or evidence of misconduct. It formed eight committees to further investigate meritorious petitions.
