APC LEADERS TELL GANDUJE TO VACATE OFFICE AFTER COURT JUDGMENT

Some leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, have told the embattled National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje to temporarily vacate his office.

This came from the Rivers State faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Emeka Beke.

Following the Kano State High Court’s affirmation of Ganduje’s suspension and its directive restraining him from further identification as a party member, Justice Usman Malam Na’abba issued the order based on an ex parte motion filed by Haladu Gwanjo and Laminu Sani, represented by their counsel, Ibrahim Sa’ad.

Speaking during a press conference held in Port Harcourt, the embattled Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, Darlington Nwauju, reiterated that Ganduje should either address his suspension at the ward level or seek legal redress to maintain his current role.

Nwauju stressed the party’s constitution, emphasizing that only ward executives and members possess the authority to suspend or expel individuals. He urged the suspended national chairman to step aside, allowing his Deputy to oversee party affairs.

Nwauju stated: “First of all, the suspension or expulsion of party members, as the case may be, is the responsibility of the political party’s foundation organ, the Ward. Article 9 of our party’s constitution, 2022 as amended, clearly talks about membership of our party which resides in the Wards.

“And when your membership is questioned, then it goes to any foundation of whatever you are doing for the political party. It questions any other thing that you do for the political party.

“Talking about disciplinary measures or punishments for party members, that is captured under article 21(3) of our party’s constitution, and we have disciplinary procedures which start from the Ward again.

“And so, if the Ward has taken a decision, it requires that Abdullahi Ganduje, Chairman of our party, either goes back to his Ward to placate the people of his Ward to get the decision reviewed, and the suspension can be vacated, or he goes to a court of competent jurisdiction to vacate his suspension.

“Now a High Court has affirmed his suspension, it becomes a more serious issue, it means that he needs to step aside as National Chairman of our party for the Deputy National Chairman (North), to act as chairman, pending the determination of the matter or pending his replacement by the National Executive Committee of our great party.

“Do not also forget the fact that the party has been moving on with the moral burden of having to shove the people of the North Central or deny them their right to a replacement for the position of the National Chairmanship of the APC.

“Because, in a situation where the former occupant of that office, His Excellency Abdullahi Adamu, resigned from that position, coming from the North Central zone of the country, the party’s constitution clearly spells out that someone from his state or his zone should also take over that office.“And so, as an individual, I wish that the party will explore this very opportunity to right the wrong of reverting and allowing someone from the North Central to occupy the seat of National Chairman of our great party.”

NORTH CENTRAL KICKS AS PDP POSTPONES NEC MEETING For the umpteenth time, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its National Executive Committee meeting initially slated for November 28. The party in a statement on Thursday said the postponement became necessary to enable members attend the burial of the Akwa Ibom State Governor and late First Lady of the state. The statement signed by the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, said the 99th National Executive Committee meeting was postponed due to the funeral of Patience Umo Eno, the late First Lady of Akwa Ibom State. The statement said, “Distinguished members of the National Executive Committee may recall that the NEC meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 24, 2024, was rescheduled to hold on Thursday, November 28, 2024, after an extensive meeting of leaders, critical stakeholders and relevant organs of the party held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.“However, at its meeting of Wednesday, November 20, 2024, the attention of the National Working Committee was drawn to the programme of events of the funeral ceremony of the late First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Mrs. Patience Umo Eno, wife of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, which events coincide with the scheduled dates of activities for the 99th NEC meeting.“After due consideration, the NWC, recognising the need for party leaders to commiserate with Governor Umo Eno and also participate in the funeral, hereby wishes to notify distinguished members of NEC of our party that the 99th NEC meeting, earlier scheduled for Thursday, November 28, 2024, will now be held on a date that will be communicated to members in due course. “All NEC members should please note the change of date and be guided accordingly. The NWC sincerely regrets the inconveniences this change of date will cause distinguished members of NEC.” the statement said.Meanwhile, addressing North Central youths in Abuja earlier, Ologbondiyan disclosed that respecting the party’s constitution was the only way to address the challenges facing the PDP and also fixing Nigeria. “Anything outside of this demand will end up an exercise in futility,” he warned. The former party spokesman said, “Leaders must look at the bigger picture and address the truth wherever it is required. We must tell those who have undertaken to either kill the PDP or render it comatose that the party is not a one-man organisation. The founders named it the Peoples Democratic Party. It is, therefore, owned by the people of Nigeria and not any individual, no matter how well placed.“The National Executive Committee of the party took a decision at its 98th meeting to consider the demand of the North Central at the 99th meeting scheduled in August this year but the proposed NEC has suffered untold postponements to the detriment of the party and Nigerians. “These postponements of NEC by the National Working Committee is an aberration that shows a huge disrespect for the constitutional order of the party.” Ologbondiyan noted that the North Central region would continue to press for what rightly belongs to it. “It is trite wisdom that as long as Damagum is being encouraged to continue to sit on the position of North Central, the concept of fixing the PDP will be mere lip servicing. “

I DIDN’T EXCHANGE BLOWS WITH AKPABIO – SENATE LEADER, OPEYEMI

I DIDN’T EXCHANGE BLOWS WITH AKPABIO – SENATE LEADER, OPEYEMI The Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has rubbished claims that he was engaged in a brawl with the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. Jackson Ude had claimed on his X handle that Senator Bamidele allegedly fought Akpabio at the Senate cafeteria, accusing him of marginalizing lawmakers from the South by assigning lucrative committee positions to his associates in the North. But in a swift reaction in a statement by his Media team, Senator Bamidele dismissed the claims as untrue and unfounded. While describing Ude as a known serial blackmailer and a “cash-and-carry” journalist, the lawmaker said that there was no physical fight between himself and Senator Akpabio on Wednesday. The statement read: “For the record, it is a verifiable fact that Senator Bamidele has never been involved in physical assault in over two decades of his political trajectory, not even when he was a young man leading the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) as President. “It is surprising that the purveyor of this misleading information in his selfish agenda and unprofessional conduct threw ethos of Journalism into waste bin and decided to feast on roadside gists to tarnish the image of the Senate Leader. “We are aware that the fake news is meant to cause disaffection within the Senate and by extension; heating up the political system. “To think that the Senate Leader, President of the Senate and other principal officers of the Senate together received the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. YU Dunhai and his delegation few minutes after leaving the plenary on Wednesday is a significant testimony against Ude’s imagination. “Further to this, photographs of the Chinese envoys with the leadership of the Senate were widely published in today’s major national newspapers. It is equally verifiable that the Senate Leader and the Senate President both drove out of the National Assembly premises in the same vehicle yesterday. “This time again, the Senate Leader is sounding a note of warning to all attention seekers in the ilk of Ude to be careful and not take the Leader’s gentlemanliness for granted. “Henceforth, the Leader will be forced to use the instrumentality of the law to protect himself and his office as enshrined in the CyberCrime Act 2015. We, therefore, urge the public to disregard this misinformation and treat it with the disrespect it deserves. “Nigeria’s disruptive fifth columnists have been failing. This is another remarkable failure. The 10th Senate is a uniquely united assembly of noble and patriotic Nigerians, hence no subterfuge can alter the bond.”
