EBONYI POLITICAL FOES UNITE FOR EX-GOVERNOR’S BIRTHDAY

After years at loggerheads, leaders of Ebonyi State including Governor Francis Nwifuru, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, former governors Sam Egwu, David Umahi and Martin Elechi, seem to have settled their differences.

The leaders have not been attending public functions together until Tuesday, when all of them gathered to celebrate the 83rd birthday of former governor Elechi in Abakaliki.

Elechi’s birthday celebration was organised by the Ebonyi State Government.

The event, which took place at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, attracted personalities both far and near.

The former Secretary to Government of the Federation, Anyim, who chaired the event, described Elechi as a foremost, resilient and uncompromising founding father of the state who fought for the unity the state is enjoying.

“it is true that Chief Elechi was the Governor of Ebonyi State but I tell you, that was just a calling to fill a vacuum which he accepted in his usual willingness to make the utmost sacrifice for Ebonyi people,” Anyim said.

Former governor of the state and ex-Minister of Education, Sam Egwu averred that Elechi displayed exemplary leadership as governor of the state and made enormous contributions to its development.

“Your dedication and tireless effort in spearheading the struggle for the creation of the state has left an indelible mark on the history of our beloved state.

“Your resilience in the struggle for the creation of Ebonyi State served as an inspiration to countless individuals, myself included.

“At the end of my tenure as the first democratically elected governor of the state, I felt naturally happy to transmit the administration of the new state to you who spearheaded the struggle of the state creation.

“As a governor, you demonstrated exemplary leadership and made significant contributions to the development of our state,” Egwu said, pouring encomiums on Elechi.

On his part, Elechi’s successor and Minister of Works, Umahi described him as an experienced administrator who taught him administration in governance.

In his speech, Governor Nwifuru said the state had every reason to celebrate Elechi.

Nwifuru commended the former governor for his leadership style and his contribution to the development of the state.

He described Elechi as one of the most respected elders in the state, Igbo land and the nation in general.

“Chief Elechi no doubt remains one of our respected elder statesmen in Ebonyi State who continues to offer rare insights and counsel on how best to organise our state, with the benefits of hindsight, for effective governance.

“I have benefited immensely from Chief Elechi’s knowledge and perspectives on a wide range of issues as they affect our state. As an astute politician, he has been part of every political epoch in our state.

“Beyond his sage contributions to our development and political evolution over the decades, the most enduring aspect of his enviable life is his forthrightness, integrity, reliability and spartan life.”

Elechi, in his remarks, lauded Nwifuru for organizing the event in his honour, describing it as the best gift to him.He stated that the governor has opened a new chapter in governance and assured of his continued support to his administration.

According to the statement, Senator Shettima will use the visit to explore opportunities for strengthened collaboration between Nigeria and Sweden in areas such as “ICT, innovation, education, digitalisation, sustainable transport, mining, and agriculture”. Nkwocha said the Vice President will also meet with key stakeholders in both the government and private sector during the visit. “The Vice President will also meet with Norrsken, a Stockholm-based venture capital impact investor, which recently launched Norrsken22, a USD 205 million tech investment fund for Africa. “Norrsken22 is a technology growth fund, backed by over 30 prominent unicorn founders, partnering with exceptional entrepreneurs building Africa’s next tech giants,” Nkwocha said. He said, “Notably, 40% of the investments from Norrsken22 are expected to be allocated to Nigerian technology entrepreneurs. “Twelve Nigerian private sector companies that are doing business with Sweden are going independently as a private sector bloc. “While in Sweden, VP Shettima is also expected to articulate Nigeria’s economic vision and the reforms being undertaken by the administration to create a business-friendly environment in Nigeria for investors. The myriad of opportunities that abound in Africa’s largest economy will also be showcased.” “The Vice President is expected back in the country on Saturday,” the statement partly read.

IT’S FAKE NEWS, THERE’S NO PLOT TO IMPEACH ME – AKPABIO

IT’S FAKE NEWS, THERE’S NO PLOT TO IMPEACH ME – AKPABIO The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has debunked a viral report speculating a plot of his potential impeachment. “If they have a lot of traffic… Who ever brought out this fake news must be getting a lot of payment because of the traffic going on. I hope the public is aware that this is total fake news and the chamber is very stable and the issue of impeachment does not come up,” Akpabio said while debunking the report during plenary on Wednesday. Reports had emerged online alleging that Department of State Services (DSS) operatives stormed the National Assembly (NASS) complex on Wednesday amid a plot to impeach the Senate President. The report highlighted growing speculations that a faction of disgruntled northern senators, reportedly dissatisfied with President Bola Tinubu, is attempting to revive a previous initiative to oust Akpabio from his position. It is common practice for parliaments worldwide to maintain dedicated internal security personnel tasked with ensuring order and safety within and around parliamentary premises. In addition to the internal security forces, other security agencies are deployed to safeguard lives and property in the event of any security breaches or threats that could disrupt the activities of lawmakers and staff, particularly when internal security resources are stretched. On Wednesday morning, the viral report also claimed that DSS personnel, dressed in dark suits and wearing dark sunglasses, were strategically positioned from the main entrance to the second gate and at all other access points within the premises.
